I'll be heading out to travel as much as I can starting in 2009. New Zealand is my first stop.

 

I would love to go to new zealand. chezch republic is my first stop. how are you getting the money to go to new zealand???

 

I've saved enough up, but I'll have to work when I get there periodically. Plus I'm pretty comfortable living dirt cheap.

 

wow i cant believe i haven't stumbled across this thread before! besides the couchsurfing site and WWOOF theres also globalfreeloaders.com which i think is easier to navigate than couch and besides WWOOF theres helpx.net which encompasses homestays, organic farms, hostels, random people who need help around the house etc. hopefully sonik we can meet up in NZ. and to ragga i too am gonna be spending some time in czech i have a friend there who was an exchange student at a local high school and i brought her to the prom with my GF at the time. NZ is jus the start of a 2 year RTW backpack extravaganza lol. i think we should have some form of sticky for hipforumers traveling abroad so we can meet each other. i really wanna meet all you that i can it would be awesome! anyone interested in meeting up while on the road pm me. i plan to leave november of 2009

themaskedmarauder: I lived in england for 12 years, really dont want to go back there! lol. but if you're travelling europe where else will you be going? maybe we could meet up in a different place.

 

Don't go with friends, do it alone. Most of the times, people who want to travel with friends do it out of fear, or wanting to hold on to a cultural or linguistic hand. Traveling with friends prevents you from changing too much, keeps you in a comfort zone. You won't meet as many new people and they will slow you down.

If you want to travel just get out there by yourself. Traveling with a bunch of buddies is like some vagabond frat club.
