Interesting article concerning the young Islamic men who are being prosecuted for planning to attack a U.S. military base in New Jersey. The Author makes the point that a paid FBI informant has set up the Defendants by acting as an agent provocateur; provoking them into a bigger conspiracy than they would have gone by themselves in order for The FBI to grab bigger headlines. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/30478044.html Does anyone here feel that these men were set-up by The Goverment?
This is the way the government has always operated and works to recruit patsies to be blamed for their own evil deeds. Were they set up? Obviously. Just like the people used in the first World Trade Center bombing in '93, Oklahoma City, 9/11, 7/7, and many of the false alarms reported since then involving often mentally troubled people who are easy targets of the government.
This case has gone to trial in Camden, NJ. Some of the themes raised in this newspaper article echo what was said by defense attorney Bruce Cutler during the three John Gotti trials in the early 90's. Dirt bag witnesses, testifying in the hope of goverment linency for thier own cases. Witnesses afected by addictions, or thier credibility compromised by a life of crime. Custler blasted the use of Sammy Gravano as a witness, who for his testimony served about 4 years behind bars for multiple murders. Yet there was no sympathetic media to pick up on Cuther and echo his themes. Does anyone remember when the goverment laid a pound of pot on to Abbie Hoffman and then busted him for it?
well u have fbi agents doing that with protest groups so i wouldnt be suprised if they do it with those guys
Cutler, Custler, Cuther? What the hell man! What I worry about is that they guys were America hating types who talked all kinds of shit but did nothing. But some FBI guy thought this was going to be his big career making score so he would keep egging them on. Entrapment, basically.
It is not uncommon for LE to lure criminals into activity that warrants a "conspiracy to commit....." charge. That is how highly probable threats are neutralized. Whether it is a radical Imam, or a used car salesman that sold this plan, the defendants in this case appeard to be impressionable Muslim youths that likely had the determination to commit an act of Jihad against an American target. We can question its legitimacy because of the FBI involvment, or we could be thankful that this was an FBI sting and not the real deal. I guess this is a good example of an individuals responsibility to determine what is right and wrong, and to distance themselves from the latter.
yeah, there's just the slight problem that if you allow entrapment, we are prosecuting acts that would not occur were it not for the investigation of those selfsame acts. Next up we will be told "the pure of heart need no lawyers". So as not to be accused of plagiarism, i will cite that quote. It's from "the crucible".
there's also the issue that time spent prosecuting gullible idiots is time not spent prosecuting the real deal. From what i know of this case, they seem to be the gullible idiots variety.
