I'm a high school student living in a small town, first of all. I feel as if the world is falling apart and nobody gives a fuck. I know there has to be people out there who feels the same way. I'm scared that technology and all these environmental problems and war will destroy the earth. But I think we need to take action. Do something crazy, that will grab attention but also actually help. I want to start a revolution, like in the sixties, when teenagers actually seemed to care about something other than myspace or other petty things. I just need to know how to start this off, and I need people who are with me. I know I sound far-fetched but these things that are happening out there are really breaking my heart. I don't know what to do
Educate yourself. The more knowledge you have, the better you can share with your peers. It would probably be easiest to pick one area to begin with - say, start a group for recycling, or educating people about ways to reduce emitions by carpooling/public transportation/bicycling, or whatever is most important to you. Write to your local newspaper, congressman, and get some publicity once you get a group started. Let them know about your cause. Once that takes off, expand your cause. I am glad to see that you are interested in making a difference in the world!
Thanks. I'm trying to get through school first now and get good grades so i can get into a good college where i can start something. right now, i'm interested in starting an environmental club or something around here. thanks for the advice
hey free spirit i can totally relate! i'm in high school too, i'm a junior and sometimes i feel i'm the only one who is concerned in changing and shaping their world and it's good to know there are other young people who care! we need to unite togethor! Start the second hippie revolution. I agree with shana we need to educate ourselves and make sure we are thinking for ourselves. we also should practice nonjudgement even towards the people who have judged us. which is extremely difficult but possible.
Everyone wants to change the world. Ron Paul might have been the man to do it, But not enough people went out to vote. Blame people who vote for "the lesser of 2 evils". You have to understand whats going on in the world before you can change it.
I wish we could start another hippie revolution. It's nice to her there's other young people who care around here but it's tough finding a way we can all band together and make a difference.
if anybody is seriously considering staring a revolution COUNT ME IN! i went to d.c. a couple of years ago...... i saw where America came from, how great it was formed, then i can home after a week and then i truly saw how shitty America has become...... It doesn't seem that anybody is promoting freedom anymore, but the put down of the majority to promote minorities to make other countries think we're actully doing a good thing...... plus think of how other countries think of ours period! Paris Hilton is famous and rich...... All these celebrites that get sent to jail for 2 seconds for doing something truly truly stupid...... i don't want other countries think that America is really like that..... And it makes me mad to see all these young kids mouthing off in schools to their teachers , instead of actully listening and learning and paving their way to a better, more enriched life for themselves.....
It's kind of easy to rebel. Yesteday we had to cut fishes open in school and i said that i don't wanna do that for ethic reasons. Teacher started trying to talk me to do it and i just kept telling her i aint gonna do it. Well she didn't even let me leave the class and i just said like bye and walked out
we need a festival that can bring people together.that is what is wrong with most people today though.if you were to get something together how many people would show up?yeah they say their all for it but when it comes time to take action no one is there(well most).books help to make you a better person but action is louder than books.if you can get a group of people even a small group at first and start a movement than you have something.
I just voted Ron Paul in my absentee ballot... Let's go back to the 3 party system that our forefathers developed! not that I think we have a chance in this, but you gotta live what you believe. If everybody did this I bet we WOULD have a chance
don't do it like the sixties, learn from their mistakes. the revolution now has to take place on a more subtle level. the social upheaval from the sixties just set the stage for a new generational paradigm of ideals that include living in harmony with nature, using renewable energy, eating food that is both good for you and not harmful on the environment to produce. you have to propagate these ideas in the heads of others, but not while running around on LSD screaming about love and peace.
Yeah, you're right. The people we are trying to get to listen to us wont listen to a bunch of crazy kids running around on acid, lol. While that might be fun, it's not the way to go if you truly want to make a change.
freexspirit29 - - For you as an individual … work hard in HS, take the APs, suck up and get good recs, do all the extra curic, develop a well rounded resumé … in short do every thing that you possible can to get into a top tier university …. and qualify for scholarships if you can. Then go as far as you can in college … make yourself more capable of changing the system. For the rest of you ….. smoking dope, wearing flip-flops, hating the adults, talking about having another Woodstock …. none of that shit is gonna change anything …. except maybe fuck up your neurons. You might as well get haircuts and buy suits and ties as doing that shit. If you really want to change anything, then you have to put your precious little pampered asses on the line … be willing to go to jail …. maybe even prison … just like the kids in the ‘60s. Of course that is hard to do in the 21st century. You might have to give up this B.S. of pretending to be ‘60s hippies, give up the cushy shit that you seem to think is you right, and take some pretty big risks with your life and your future. The ‘60s kids were motivated … they, or their loved ones, could easily be sent to the blasphemy of Viet Nam and come back in a box. Y’all need to find a motivation that is strong enough to make you risk your own person freedom! Note: I am NOT generalizing … there are many people out there who are willing to put their asses on the line … and I’m sure as hell not talking to you. My apologies if it seemed that I was attacking those of you who are willing to do more than smoke dope and listen to The Grateful Dead or Jimi. Have fun and play safely!
Wahoo. I wish I had your scope of intellect when i was 15. First things first, Technology is not the enemy. Technology is our salvation. It is the Corporations and Marketing, and BANKING industry that control techonolgy that have us in the heffalump trap we are in. The average guy on the street has to USE technology to fight back. seriously. It's time to say fuck the man. I have the ability to grow my own food. And I am now. I have the ability to raise my own livestock. And I am now. I have the ability to generate my own electricity. And I am now. I have the ability to ... etc etc etc. It's time for humans to take a few steps back and fix the burnt bridges. There is an old saying in my former line of work (group homes) that says there is no such thing as bad kids only bad parents. If you accept this on the small scale you come to realize that by multypliying this phrase exponentially thats what makes society so repulsive. We are all raised poorly into acepting a structure that is competitive, evil, and wretched from birth. This is what the 70's were all about. This realiazation. Now we have to get of our ass and do it. But that is definitly the way to do it. Take a stand for solidarity. The Human race is one beautiful being I also recommend for your viewing the following documentaries: The elegant universe What the bleep do we know Zeitgeist Zeitgeist: Addendum And start taking a serious interest in working with the land, actively. Read: Gardening books, Natrual medicinal books, hunting books, fishing books, camping books. Survival books. And for christ sake put away your ipod and start taking a crap in the woods. LIVE your life
The right awnser is NO system. And if you read between the lines that is pretty much what he stood for. Of course he can't come right out and say it.
count me in i would do it start a group here in hip forums and make sure that the people who join are wiling to help then we can get together and work it out "when there is a problem just think it out, talk it out, work it out"
If you ask me, what we're taught in school won't help you much. Do outside research on different ways to make a "difference." Today we're just brainwashed, atleast that's what I believe. You'll believe what THEY want you to believe. I want change, FreexSpirit. I fear though that peace and harmony will never come at the rate we're going now. We must try though! My best advice, spread word of peace, show that you care for others. One kind thing can start a revolution!
