What exactly the fuck is a recession?

Everyone's talkin' bout it, but does anyone apart from the "experts" actually know what the fuck it is?

For the rest of us it basically means, no job, no money, can't pay the bills, whereas to the fat lazy capitalist cunts who sit on their arses all day investing, it means they aren't going to make as much of a killing, in fact they might even make a loss, which means they are going to throw their six figure sums at us any more so be can spend our mondays to friday turning the world into a money making machine for them.

Anyway, to the point. What is a recession in laymans terms?

As far as I understand it, it is when the banks lend too much money out, the debtors then can't pay it back, and the banks then start losing money and collapsing and subsequently failing to invest money in new ventures. Companies then have to start cutting back on workers because they are making enough money, and then we all lose our jobs and our houses, depsite having worked our bollocks off to make the guys with the suits on rich.

Oh fuck I don't know, it's all bullshit, all these politicians and bankers all have ideas on how to fix the problem, throw money here and there, toss random figures around on a giant board, but at the end of the day they are missing the point. What drives inflation and ultimately causes these things to happens is scarcity of resources. As we use up the planets resources at an increasing rate, they become harder to find and subsequently more expensive, subsequently driving up the cost of everything that is made from it.

And eventually the whole system collapses, when there is nothing to buy money and virtual wealth become meaningless. As the indians say, we will eventually learn that money doesn't grow on trees.

We were in a recession in the 80's and the world didn't end.

 

Basically it means we are going to be poor,hungry,& Fucked.And we call this place America.

 

I care nothing for this recession. I have a decent paying job and more money than I could ever hope to spend, it helps that I don't have any debts and generally never buy anything because i'm a dirty hippie. If the economy goes bad its pretty likely that i'll still have more money than I need. I feel sorry for families and people that go crazy on their credit cards though.

 

As far as I know its actually that 'one cannot eat money'.

if your going into this using the early 80's as a benchmark your in for a rude awakening. i left home in 1979,i remember the recession of the 80's well.
we are already there and where we are headed is going to make those times look like a walk in the park.

 

yeah, and when the economy was in a recession back in the 80's...my ex was doing ok with odd jobs around the neighborhood.

and supposedly, we are in/ or about to be in a recession now...and I am in the best financial spot that I have ever been in, in my entire life. So oh yeah...I seem to thrive during recession.

 

what good is more money than you need when there are shortages on what you need to survive on and what is available costs 10 times what it does today?

i dont get that mentality. all the money in the world is meaningless if it cant buy you what you need to survive..

 

True, which means we are not going into a recession. Recession is the wrong word to describe what is happening, I dont even know if depression is good enough. But, I was answering the "what exactly the fuck is a recession?" portion

 

As far as I know folks is using the first world war as a bench mark, this is probably going to be the worst depression ever in the history of the modern mechanistic view of the world.

And pretty much everyone saw it coming.

my rent is $65 a month at the most...(rent goes by how many hrs I work..up to 40 hrs a week, so if I work less then 40 hrs then rent is less & this includes utilities)
Qwest is about $83 a month

haven't figured out the average for food...but I'm flexible there.
everything else is extra & not really needed for survival

 

The weather this year has been so bad in the UK that in some places farmers can't even drive their ploughs to harvest their crops, it's a fucking quagmire in some places. Doesn't matter how much money you have when we reach the stage when there is near total crop failure, and this will happen eventually if continue with the practise of farming monoculture.

 

Just wait until we have to ration food.

 

I don't have a lot of money, just a steady supply. I could probably live off 10% of what I earn. Its a perfectly sane mentality. Are we really heading into great depression territory?

 

well then i guess as long as the tourists keep coming your fine. just remember we are now being warned of a "generated crisis" coming january 21 or 22.

if that turns out to be catastrophic enough that tourists stop coming,,then what?
dont count on anything being secure or guaranteed going into this. make plans for the unexpected now,before its to late..

 

my opinion is worse. and the implications of such a downturn in todays society as opposed to the society of the great depression are frightening to say the least.

things were so much different back then. most OWNED there homes,few had mortgages.MOST lived on farms and were self sustaining,not relying on the grocery stores to feed them. there were less than a 1/3 of the people there are now globally.. i could go on and on..
the informations out there just do a little research and compare for yourself.

times are going to be much harder for most this time around.society has become to reliant on the system to just breeze through this..
