ok, ive had my dreads liek 2 months,iv been using beeswax but ive been told its counterproductive and semi-useless, if i stop using any wax and just consistenly wash them, will they still turn out nice and tight looking with minimal loose hair? im really sick of waxing them, its a waste of time i think
    thanks :)

lol you guys are hilarious you don't need anything...

    it just takes time.

wax fucks up your hair. you don't need any products.

in about 24 hours there's going to be a flank of people telling you how bad wax is, just watch, and it's the truth...

work on getting that shit outa your locks, bro

some great advise is... stop using wax, and dont worry about loose hairs they'll work there way in the dreads in time. be paitent and all ya really gotta do if ya dont want congoing going on is to rip hairs at scalp from each other to stop that from happening :) simple. :p

what's up with the new people giving horrible advice =D read around a bit

on the subject...get rid of wax, but prepare for a journey...it in most cases takes years for the dreads to tighten up if not interrupted and polluted with wax and shit...dont expect to wake up with 'perfect' locked dreads in a few months. do some research on locks and just learn from the journey, no rush :)

wax will give you stiff dreadlocks

many people who use wax usually dont have their dreadls for a long time

    crochetting is also bad advice
it weakens dreads alot and causes more loose hairs and will need constant re-crochetting also it changes the look and feeel of them

the wax is bad bad shit the worse thing u can do follow the wax removal if u want to save yoiur dreads..otherwise theres a good chance you'll end up cutting them off in disgust

Yea rollin is a good idea it makes em round and thats what ya want.my dreads are only a few inches long but they locked up nice in bout 4 months.Tie them in a hoop at the top as near to the scalp as ya can ,in order to keep em separated ,then after 2 months when the hoop grows away from the scalp you can flip them through the hoop but in the mean time rip and twist but back comb the ends to keep em tight over night .Add a wee bit a loc peppa if ya wanna hurry things along but dont rush em.Each morning pick out the worst dread and tell it it's your favorite.Patience my friend

If you don't like loose hair, like me, get a crochet hook and crochet any loose hair into the dread.
I don't find that it weakens the dread, or that it create more loose hair.

its a needle being thrust threiygh a dread it hads to break hairs along the way to pass though
it does weaken the dread and it does create mpore and more broken ends to pop out

it also gives the dread a different look and feel so if u stop the new growth looks different from the crochetted

why apply unnatutral techniques to a natural hairstyle
the result will always be lkess them optimum

think about it..how often do u crochet the same dread? if u crochet in every loose hair theyd stay in unless u break hairs weakening the dread and causing new hairs to pop out every time requirtimng more dread perforation till eventualy the dreads so full of holes it breaks off

justy went back and took a look at your 2 threads, at the 8 month update if u look real close you can see a very definate woven look to many dreads
at the year upodate there seems to be a hell of alotta loose hairs..that wermt there at 8 months..hmmm maybe the year was in betwreen perforation sessions?

tnhats the biggest prob with crochett..once u start, u have to keep it up consytantly ir have a didstinct difference in the natural growth..whicjh means u keep on dammaging the dread till theyre significazntly weakened

the longer u do it the worse the dammage especialy as the dread becomes compacted so more hairs get shreaded with each hole i poke through
the dammage adds up over time till the hait ar the tip isnt connected to the hair at the root instead is broken into many peices the length if the dread

After much consideration, Imma gonna bite my tongue and merely say.

Wax is bad. And crocheting doesn't remotely resemble how it's described in SE's post.
