its been about 3 and a half months now. ive got an awful lot of loopy loops and bumps in my dreads. i was under the impression they would sort themselves out but they havent and my husband said they would never go away i do NOT want to cut my hair but i dont want the loops, i cant even palm roll some of them because they are so flat and loopy. im totally bummed...

they will go away, everyone had them :) and when some of mine go away, i just find more at the freshly dreaded part. Loops just come and go.

thats what i was thinking, but i was just told they wont go away and only get worse unless you "do" somthing about it and i thought i didnt have to "do"

my hubby had some dreads for 3 years but he didnt use the right shampoo or anything so i think his probably never locked up.

the loops will go away but they may become bumps ridges spirals anyuu sorta unique surface features they are not anything to be bummed abut but istead be proud of they add chatacter
[IMG]if ya look closely each and every dead was loopy at 1 point or another..see the 1 kinda wrap[ped around the rest you can see bumps and lil zigs n zags that are a;l the result of looping that sorted itself pout intop just a unique personality for each dread

palm rolling is o overrateed if you keep palm rilling biut never feel like its doing any gpood no wonder yoiur bummed..
leave em alone and they'll take care of themselves..the less effort iiu put into em the less u feel like u wasted all that efforty with out getting the results u hoped for

I too love the unique character the loops give. I would say embrace it, be proud of it. They will come around. You've only been at it 3 months or so.

I have crazy ass loops, some of my dreads look like a (cartoon) christmas tree, I've found that the loops tend to be the precursor to them properly locking (in my hair at least.)

    Hi there.

I dont know what your reasons for dreads are, fashion, religion, personal. But This is all i can say. They are a journey. Locks will never be perfect mine are for religious believes and i believe that the reason dreadlocks are never perfect without product is because it is Jah's way of telling us we are not, and never will be perfect! DO NOT BE BUMMED Love them for what they ar, love them for what thy stand for, love them because they love and are apart of you. Just like there carriers locks have there own personality. Just love them, and you will learn to live with there faults.

Here are mine at 6 weeks. I backcombed them once, and roll them occasionally. No products of babylon have touched my scalp, and never will.

Peace love and harmony, Jah bless you

like he said locks shouldnt be perfect
i've talked to a few people who siffered from eatting disorders and body image issues that developped from an extreme demand to be perfect..all theyre lives family pushed them towards perfection till they were always disatisfied with never being able to be completely perfect..
dreads set them free from those demands dreads allowed them to feel good about being imperfect
and dreads alowed them to not care who else thought they wernt perfect
love the imperfections that make you unique

i understand everything you guys is saying is true, i have my dreads for i guess a zen like purpose to teach me patience and not to worry so much, it is a journey and i do love my hair but it isnt perfect and neither am i. im so imperfect i worry myself to death alot of times. i know that it is wrong but mabye i need some encouragement sometimes and i think everyone does. you guys dont need to be so harsh to judge me i do a good enough job of that myself and i thank you guys for pushing me in the right direction with this.
i just really dont know what to expect from my hair and it suprises me everyday, so i like to ask questions of people that have been on the journey longer than i

i think your perfectly imprerfect and thats why i think your so perfect
its the si called perfect ones that are so boring and scary

if u were alittle more imperfect youd be even mpore perfect
but u know what ..accepting imperfections is the most perfect thing u can do
