I think Colin Powell deserves a whole new respect. The depth and clarity of his thoughtful and articulate endorsement offers a wise alternative to the id-baiting methods of the McCain/Palin Campaign. Maybe we will be civilized after all.

Colin Powell, wow, now there is a resume.

    Commander of Nato.

Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff, US military.

    Secretary of State.

Why isn't he running for President?

Powell said at the next United Nations Security Council meeting he will go into more detail on why he is endorsing Obama.

I hope that meeting comes before the election. I also hope he gives reason to believe that President Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction.

Because he did tremendous damage to his image and to his own self esteem when he shilled for the Bush administration.

Hopefully he will be running to replace Obama in 2016.

    Hey wackyiraqi,

I am sorry, but I don't read Arabic, and I am curious about your signature. Can you give me the English translation?

    Thanks.

It means, "I am the Devil, and I am here to do the Devil's work."

Most that recognize it will recognize it from Rob Zombie's movie, The Devil's Rejects. However, it is sort of an inside joke to my colleagues and myself. We used to refer to our past "employer" as the Devil, and we would often say it to intimidate our "clients". There are a lot of misconceptions about Yankees in foreign places, sometimes you can use that to your advantage. :) If you've ever seen gatherings in the Middle East where protesters are holding signs of Bush with bloody fangs, it is because they are often times indoctrinated by the religious radicals to believe wild things about Americans and Jews. Things like Devil worship, rituals, blood drinking, baby sacrificing, etc...

If you were with a thousand people it may seem powerful to denounce the Devil, but if you are alone with him face to face, to a person of belief, it can be very intimidating. Make sense?

Here is an example of what they preach (this quote is in reference to Bush)
I can see the blood of the children of Afghanistan between his fangs. Their blood drips onto his lips and chest. He is Dracula, a vampire.-Hamas Culture Minister Atallah Abu Al-Subh

Sort of like pentecostals! I remember getting "Chick Publications" tracts to give to my friends. Good christian dudes would go out and fight the devil worshipping Dungeons and Dragons players. How long was Sarah Palin involved with the pentecostals again?

I grew up in the pentecostal church. Scary.

Growing up I always thought Catholicism was strange. After broadening my horizons I realized that Christianity is something that most Americans I knew practiced for two hours every Sunday morning, a large contrast from hearing the prayer calls 7 times throughout the day. To another extreme, the reverse logic of Takfir is still something that boggles my mind.

Growing up, I was told Catholics were going to hell for praying to saints. The pentecostals (the church palin associated with for a long time) believe praying to the saints is idol worship. We were taught to pray ALL day. Demons were everywhere.

This caused sectarian strain with the catholic side of my extended family.

To make matters more confusing, my parents later switched to a baptist church, where we were told the pentecostals work with the devil.

How someone like Palin gets a pass for associating with those tongue speaking whackos (wackis?) while Obama gets slammed for Rev. Wright is beyond me. I've listened to Wright's sermons. They are child's play compared to the division and spiritual warfare taught by pentecostals.

You are so sexist to want to treat Palin like everyone else. ;)

I think the best thing about Powell's endorsement was him pointing out that the negative intention and effects of calling Obama an Arab or Muslim is an indication of prejudice against those groups. (I'm glad someone other than Jon Stewart said something.)
