I was with a friend and he was on DXM. He said at first he just felt really sick and then he felt like he wasnt in his body. And then throughout the trip he was just sick.I was wondering how bad DXM is for your body and what does it do to you.

If he drank Robitussin to get high and felt sick, he might've gotten the wrong kind. You're supposed to look at the label to see if there's any other active ingredients besides DXM. If he didn't do that then he set himself up for some serious risks.

I suggest Robitussin Cough Gels or Robitussin Cough Long-Acting Liquid. DXM is the only active ingredient in both.

Most other Robitussin products have either Phenylephrine, which can cause hypertension and siezures at high doses, or Guaifenesin, which can cause severe nausea and/or vomiting at high doses.

If the only active ingredient was DXM, then I don't know. He might've just had too little or too much or it was just placebo.

As far as feeling out of your body, that is normal, it's a dissociative drug.

The sickness associated with it, could just be his stomach not being able to handle 4 - 8oz of cough medicine, or like the above poster said, he could have gotten the wrong kind.
