    Hiya.

Basically I washed my hair last night and they went all kinky. so this morning thought I would tackle them, tighten them up and straighten them up.
Backcombed the first one and half of it literally came out in my hand!
    Why would this happen?
And how (if I can?) rescue my hair?

I can put pics up if it will help?

I havent had them long, and dont want to lose them yet....OR the rest of my hair lol:)

    Thanks x

backcombing and palm rolling and all that is dammaging to hair..if u backcomb it should be done once only..never again
your hair will come loose and retighten..thats normal u should let it happen not try to force it by rebackcombing or u can do more dammage and yes loose alot of hair

besides backcombing, what else have u done to them?

Apart from the backcombing im not really sure what else could make it break off like this.

I dont use anything in my hair and ive been using my boyfriends dread shampoo. Except for last night when I used (dont kill me) mint source shower gel because i wanted to give it a good clean... I wouldnt have thought that would have done it though would it.

    no..what dread shamppoo
hads u bleached or donre anby chemical processes that weakened the hair

you backcombed 2 minths ago right? and again today?
backcombing even once can rip alot of hair out which stas knotten together but disconnected from the scalp
i personaly would bnever backcomb unless my hair didnt knot at all after a year
    but thats me

backcombing more then once could really rip alotta hair lout
the gel..well thats not good fpor babuy dreads
it loosesned up the hgair and conditioned it causing the loosening

use dr bronners diluted or somethunbg silular
and when u really want a good clean use the baking sida deep cleanse
    (see wax removal thread)
    \
you may wanna use lil aluer gel too to help repair dammaged briyttle hair

    and dont backcomb again

    lets seee pics

what shampoo does your bf use too
most dread products are pure crap..scams

This was my hair back a week or so ago. The ends are still loose, but the body of the dreads are locking up really nicely. Not a good pic, sorry

    [IMG][/IMG]

These were taken earlier. Im not functioning very well today, so please ignore the state of me and my hair lol.

These photos try and show how crinkly my hair has gone and (hopefully a pic of where it came out.

    after the wash
    [IMG][/IMG]

    after the backcomb
    [IMG][/IMG]
How do i get the crinkles out if i dont back comb? Do i roll them back in with my fingers??

    thanks all

    leagve em be
the crinkles as u call em is looping its part of the dreading process
they will loop up and the loops become knots they become the features of the dreads that make the dreads unique

    btw very pretty

i think i see whare the dread came off
im sorry to see that..but i hope u dont mind if i use this as an example for ithers when i watn them about the dangers of overworking theyree dreads..too much basckcombing too much palm rolling root rubbing twisting whatever can lead to dread losss

your best to just leave em do what dreads do

whayt else from dreadheadhwq does he/you use?
dreadheadhq and knottyboy are such scams
even if theyre shampoo is somewhat hatmless everything else they sell inclusing theyre lies are such scams i would never use theyere shit again
    http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=323456&f=209

if you used anything besides theyre shampoo then your just asking for trouble
but lets assume u justy used theyre shampoo nothing else
theyre methiods..hours of clockwise rubbing palm rolling root and tip rubbing u name iut..leads to what happened to you..

if ui was you id boycot theyre crap just because of all theyre lies and deceites

Dreads loosen up when they get wet. Im thinking that you handled them up too much after they were dry. Now remember when you weren't growing dreads, and everytime you combed your hair a couple hairs came out? Well, for however long you've been growing them, those havn't come out, they've been stuck in your dreads. When you handled them with your hands excessivly, those loose hairs that would've come out being un dreaded came out. Backcombing just increases the number of loose hairs in your head, but not coming out.

Since you don't want to backcomb again you should do what I do when I tighten them up. Make a turban out of one of your big fuzzy wool sweaters from your grandma, then rub it all about your head for a while. You'll get a ton of knots that way. Only problem, alot of your dreads will've knotted together, so you need to grab them and rip them apart from eachother.
    Good luck

Sorry, im an eager poster lol,

my boyfriend uses the wax, the shampoo, the lock in pepper, um.... he has one of their metal combs. He uses bands............ and YES hes having loads of trouble with his hair (hes joining up once hes finished work).

He hasnt been backcombing though, thats just me as far as I know ive had his comb for the past few months since I started doing my hair so Im pretty sure hes left his alone.

But yeah, his hair is in a mess.

^^ again excessive rubbing..perhaps less dammaging but still more dammage then nesacary time will tighten
also..douing that will also result in alotta wool fuzzes stuck in your dreads..u dont wanna add any extra you'll get plenty stuck in there over the years without adding to it

Lol Oh goodness, im starting to think im a hopeless case. Im not usually this stupid honestly lol.

Ok no excessive rubbing, let the dreads do the work and no product or backcombing.

I can wear hats though cant I? How rough can i be with putting my hair up away from my face?

these are mu dreads.. never had a comb touch em.. never used wax lock peppa accelerator nothing never been palm rolled twisted rubbed
the only thonjg i did was in the 1st few weeks was play with em lil bit absentmindedly (not intentionaly but was fun ti just twidle em lilk bit) that and stuck a few beads in here and there

im glad u avoiuded the waxn mess at least..your very pretty and have pretty dreads that will turen out just fine if ya let em

youyr bf..well hes got to get all that crap out..he may need to lose the dreads and start over if its bad.
    dreadheadhq destroys dreads
that link i posted..send back all that crap with that letter and demand your money back..then spread the word that they are a scam

if we can save his dreads we'll try..but sometimers its best to just start over fresh...and do it right
