I dunno about the stock brokers, but the banking execs are sure making out, must be nice to make big money regardless of job performance, kinda goes against the basic rules of capitalism, doesn't it? But then some folks don't live by any rules.

Ahh, yes, fear, the infamous tool of the bush administration. Isn't that the arm twisting that compelled congress and the senate to pass the bailout in the first place without carefully planning it so that it would benefit us taxpayers who are funding it? The sky is falling, gotta pass this thing fast before the economy collapses.

Well folks, surprise, surprise, as a number of nobel laureate economists predicted, it doesn't appear to be working...

i wouldnt bet against sporadic blackouts.. when the banks really start falling cash flow is going to become a huge problem and if folks aint gettin paid folks aint gonna be working, then theres supply issues etc.etc...

the fact is your merely speculating as we all are. your choosing to believe the few optimists that are out there.

this thing really hasnt even got started yet and its already gone farther on this drop cycle than even the pessimists guessed.
past a point there is no telling what is going to happen. besides what does it matter if the grid is still up if you cant afford the power bill?
like i said there are so many variables that for you to say "It's not that bad, The "grid" isn't going to go down" while admirable is a bit naive IMO..

lets hope your correct(i dont believe your even close to correct however),as for me an mine,we will pray for the best and prepare for the worst and i would advise any and all to do the same..

    Your half right,

I am only speculating but do you really believe that we will plummet into another full on depression? Probably not, but if this can be used as a way to divert the public's interests into the stopping of this "financial crisis" and off of any other various topics that are prevelant with the upcoming election it will be done.

It will be analyzed and ran into the ground.

I know its cliche but "Look to see who benefits to find the true source of the problem."

And yeah, I forgot who said that.

do i believe? ive been following this mess for a year now.. i KNOW we are headed for a full blown depression!

the question is will our government completely meltdown in the process..

lets put this in perspective, there are a little over 100 trillion dollars of tangible assets on earth.there are between 670 trillion and a quadrillion dollars in derivatives out there..no one knows for sure..

the best guess ive saw yet for where the market will land is around 6000.
    most are speculating below 5000.

you have to realize that as much as 9/10ths of the worlds "wealth" is nothing more than worthless pieces of paper that have been leveraged dozens of times.

the derivatives market hasnt crashed yet.it will. and when it does who knows what will happen..one things for sure,a lot of perceived wealth globally will cease to exist...

yes im calling it now. a full blown depression for most of the globe within 18 months.. hows that?

oh its going to crash before spring.. ;)(as in the economy will be in the shitter full blown by then but it could keep getting worse before hitting bottom)

but if im wrong ill come out and admit it in BIG BOLD TYPE so everyone can be sure and see just like i have always done.. :)

hows this for another prediction,5 years minimum before we see any signs of recovery..

these are not my predictions..ive read enough analysts that predict these things that im saying i agree mind you.. im not a expert and im not psychic..

just sayin what ive read and believe to be true..

just to put the media's definitions into perspective, the generally accepted definition of 'economic depression' is negative growth to the ecomony for a minimum of 2yrs

The market did some wild swings today and the media focuses on that while doing quiet little blurbs about how many lay-offs are happening. I liked the one today that made it seem like workers were getting a little vacation...said the company wasn't laying anyone off but the employees would be getting a week off to help with the economic crisis.

once hyperinflation sets in,and it will, for many the way of bartering to exchange goods and services will once again become a way of life,at least for a time, because no one is going to be able to afford a lot of things otherwise..

once again, the rich will be immune to these conditions,im not referring to them i am referring to what is now called middle class and below..

still being a complacent annoying sheep i see odon..lol

just posting what the experts beyond the mainstream media are saying about the global financial situation.

one can choose to believe and prepare or one can choose not to and do nothing..
or stand somewhere in between..what one chooses is there choice.

if the possibilities strike fear or dread in someone then perhaps they should reevaluate there situation and try and prepare for what may lie ahead..
i can attest that being prepared gives one a sense of calm and confidence no matter what we may face in the coming years.. :)

I'd like to read the main stream media articles that say we will be bartering to exchange goods and services because some people won't be able to afford to do anything else...I can appreciate you getting yourself prepared, but preparing for the time we are back to bartering  ... perhaps is a step too far. ;)

ive never stopped bartering.its a part of our life now and has been pretty much all my life and will continue to be.
most of what we have built here was built with bartered items. my mechanic works for barter, the guy who does our tractor work barters with us.
its not some mid evil concept.people here in the states, especially in rural areas do it all the time..

there are hundreds of groups across the country, mind you you dont have to be in a group to barter, its just fair trade.do a google search an see for yourself.

its not a stretch to say that as times get harder more and more people will go back to the barter system as a cheaper means to acquire goods and services..i never said it would be a barter society. i said many more will go back to doing it for goods or services they otherwise could not afford..

    Great that you do.
    I know people do.
In a very minor way so do I.

    "i said many more"
    No you did not.
You are reighning yourself in now.
You said: "because no one is going to be able to afford a lot of things otherwise..."

That is what I was reacting to - and why I thought you were filling us all with faux fear.
As I knew when pushed you would not be so alarmist.
    Seems I was right.

i said what i said.. i havent changed anything.. your just being you as usual.

i believe that to be true and i do believe given the option if one could barter for a item that they could not afford they would even now and even now there are items that NO ONE EXCEPT THE RICH can afford.

i believe as times get harder logic dictates that those items will become less and less extravagant and more and more necessities that NO ONE EXCEPT THE RICH can afford.
therefore i believe many more will turn to that option..
now does that clarify fully my belief on the subject or are you to inept in your comprehension abilities to understand it still?

You just changed the detail from one thing to another.
No, you have not changed anything have you!

    It does clarify your point.
Shame you did not say that in the first place...
