you just need to give them time, it sounds like you got your hair backcombed which will make them look like dreads at first but will still take many months for true dreads to form.

A bit of backcombing can help with loose parts. Take it and literally back comb the hair

Oh yeah - nothing beats time tho!

    Happy dreading!

Ok thanks but if i jsut leave them as they are, will they be ok?, like do all dreadlocks naturally lock up at the roots over time without having too touch them?
or is that just too good to be true?

once u backcomb once dont do it again
they will knot on theyre own
but u will always have about an inch undreaded at the roots thats nothing to worry about and iver rubbing will cause dammage some have rubbed em till they fell off..so just stop..be patient dreads take care if themselves

Mine are only a month old so they still have a lot of unknotted parts. I am just letting them do there thing, I just make sure to separate them daily so I don't get a uni-dread (see the pic on the inspiration thread...nasty!)

yeah dude my "dreadlocks" are about 10 months in and I STILL have loose hairs and about two or three locks in the side and back of my hair that are just curls and for some reason they just don't want to dread. Heh that's what I get for letting my hair dread itself... Damn rebel hairs. :D

mayyyyyybe^ I've still got a lot of undreaded parts after 2.5 years - mainly around my neck underneath. I've heard of people being dreaded for close to a decade and only THEN did some of the stubbornly undreaded parts start to dread! Sometimes they never dread.

I've grown to enjoy my loose hairs. I recently started braiding them because I know they just DON'T want to dread. So be it.

are you saying you have slightly undreaded root hair, then dreaded hair, then undreaded hair, and then dreaded ends? if so, that's normal, the bits in the middle will wind themselves together eventually. mine have been at least.

and if you are meaning root growth, sometimes it does take a while for it to lock up. my hair is pretty stubborn until it hits a certain point of nappiness, so i do some root rubbing to encourage it to lock up, and it's been doing great. i have about 3 inches or so of new growth that has dreaded since i started my locks. i have the "dye line" from where i had dyed my hair before i dreaded to prove how much new growth i have. :D

it's a nice reminder of how much they've grown... and it shows just how much it shrinks!!!!

my hair was about shoulder length when i dreaded, except for some layers. now the part that is pre-dread color is about 2 or 3 inches MAX!!! wow.

Yer what i mean is my new root growth isnt lockign up very fast. i want it to be left with just a lil bit of undreaded at the hair, i guess i need to do a lil more root rubbing
