I saw this on aol. Some of the signs these people were holding up got me laughing today..... but I think I'll keep my job http://www.asylum.com/2008/10/03/pa...-worker/?icid=100214839x1211230196x1200668521
MY stepdaughters mama used to fly signs to get across the country. Her boyfriends idea of the whole process is that he was giving people the opportunity to be charitable. That these people would give to him and he, in return, would give them inspiration and somewhere to give their tithing too. Flying signs and asking for handouts pisses me off. We had to put our foot down and tell them they were not to ever do it with our daughter/stepdaughter there. If you need it ok....but this was different.
i remember the first time i saw a sign that read "i won't lie, i need a drink." i laughed so hard and gave him a dollar for the humor and honesty.
i figure, if they have a sign funny enouch to emit a chuckle, i'll hand over a dollar. they brightened my day, that's worth a buck. a drop in blood pressure, an elevation in feel good hormones, etc.
Haha, when Dan and I were bums living off of couch change and what we could sneak from his sister's tip jar, we'd go to Amarillo in our horrible P.O.S. car (cost only $5 to get there, so we'd scrape up the money, go, and then just stay until we could get $5 for gas to get home, lol), had no bumper, the headlights were driving lights we wired to the grill with plastic twist tie things, and it was just the ugliest thing ever. It was hilarious, though, because we hung out in a neighborhood famous for its drug problems, we became friends with everyone on the block just cuz they all had smoke hookups, and there was this really nice business building right up the street where panhandlers would sit in the shade with their little cans and signs. They'd flip us off and yell when we didn't throw change to them, but we were probably poorer than them!
the best sign I ever saw was on Haight St, which simply read "Potless Pothead". another good one was a sign asking for donations for "The Negro Pizza Fund".
most of these are unoriginal. word travels fast among those willing to fly a sign in regards to what works well and "new" funny things to write. not to badmouth them. i hold no grudge or ill will. its just i've heard from people who do this more than once about the sign such as the first if you click on the link on that page "ninjas killed my family. need money for karate lessons" in general if i have something i can spare and they aren't harassing me, i give them money. otherwise, i'm sorry, but nothing doing.
HAH! look at dude in pic #2...perfectly clean white tshirt, immaculate white sweat socks, sitting on grass on top of something to keep his precious pants from getting dirty.....funny sign he wont even bother to hold up. sounds like the kind of losers i've known. not someone in need, someone who prefers not to work. i'm generally very sympathetic and try not to make judgments regarding who is and who isnt in need, unless i know them personally...because everyone has a different story and i never really know whats true.... but he's one of the very few people i would refuse money simply on principle....clean shaven, clothes nicer than mine are half the time...not even a wrinkle in the shirt.... i bet he just told his mom he was going out looking for a job so he could finally move out
oh shit! dude in 10/14 looks like a guy i know...and thats definitely something he'd say hahaha..... its not him, but damn....i had to look twice
