unless there is a fast flowing stream there i doubt you could get the tannins out of them without a lot of effort in the time your going to be there..

it takes a LOT of soaking and changing the water out or a good long soak in a fast moving stream to get them all out..
but on the bright side if your soaking them and changing the water by hand you can save the tannins for .washing clothes, tanning hides, you can use it on poison ivy,a astringent for your face,,lots of other uses as well..

so even though getting the tannins out is a bit of work,it is still a useful biproduct..

the old timers survived the great depression due in part to the lowly acorn..
tis why we decided to get proficient in the use of them before we had to out of necessity..;)

like i said, preparation is a bit of work but the end result is worth it..

oh BTW,weve been told with a little practice acorn burgers are better than boca burgers..;)

You guys are much better survivalists then I will ever be:)

so does all the soaking make them moist....because that would be a crunchy damn burger

no just a seasonal creek and a spring that feeds a very small pond.

what we have decided is the best method for getting the tannins out here is to shell what we are going to use the following week and place in a large plastic container with lots of holes in it and put it under the spring head we have tapped and let the water run over them for a week then when we are due to get more drinking water take them out and repeat the process..

thats he easy way,but that way ya cant save the tannins and as i said they have many uses so we will do the standard soak and change the water method periodically so as to make sure we have enough tannins to wash clothes..

you would make a course flour out of them somewhat like cornmeal..

there is a wealth of information on them on the web..
i dunno if you know or not but the entire kudzu plant is edible and very nutritious as well..

good things to know in the coming years..;)

Jeez f'ing louise. Is it almost thanksgiving already? When the heck is it? Nevermind. I don't care. I will be living in a VW van in HI and probably drinking a margarita on the bach. Actually, I wont be, because I hate margaritas, but what I am trying to say is this: I wont be having a Thanksgiving dinner. No turkey lurkey for me. Man, I'm crying the blues....

I am bringing oven-roasted autumn vegetables for my family Thanksgiving this Monday. So I'll be baking yams, funnel bulb, red potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, shallots, oil, balsamic vinegar and salt and a bit of wine. Think I'll put some cider vinegar in instead and change the recipe. Perhaps.

I doubt there is anything left to fuck...but I guess you could just rub your dick in the dirt.

I'm hoping that I don't have to cook this year. Everything is always made from scratch and I hate it. I have to cook all day while listening to football, and then we eat. The only good thing about it - I don't have to cook for three days afterwards.

I love to cook, but everyone hovers in the kitchen on Thanksgiving. I hate that. If I'm the one asked to cook, I want everyone to stay out so I can get it done.
