Well what I understand, people cused all the time after WW II. My father was a lifer in the military and cussed all the time. So did my mom. So did my bfather's brothers. That was the way it was back then. Every time I'd drive by my uncles' house, you could here then saying GD this and GD that. Now they had a serious fow mouth. In the military, back then, the more you cussed, the more authoritary you sounded. When I went in the military, it started to calm down alittle. But it was still common to cuss. I had a Col. that was good at that and what I understand he still does it. This other col. called him Old Trash Mouth the other day. For a while, every third word of mine was a cuss word. When I get in the mood, I'm good at it, but most of the time I don't anymore. I studied Constitutional law in the 70's and at that time we had fredom of speech everyplace except yelly "Fire" in a theater. But now, everyone gets so fucking offended with what you say. I use to have a joke book from the 70's that had over 1,000 ethnothic jokes in it. It was funnier than shit. I'm sure it's been band by now. It all changed in the late 80's. In the 80's I use to be in adult education. I use to tell dirty jokes in class and if some student heard a good one, i'd let them share it with the class. It use to keep the class lively. I never had a student fall asleep on me and they learned a hell of a lot because I kept them entertained and never a dull moment in class. One of my jokes had two adult students fall and roll on the floor laughing. I never had any complaints back then, only student doing everything they could not to miss class. Now, you can't say a fucking dam thing that someone won't be offended by it. I'm Lutheran but use to hang out with some prists. Now they have some good jokes. Use to go out drinking with prists and lutheran pastors - had a good time. You young people don't know what it's like to have a good time.

He claims to be a proffet and writtes down in a prophecy "...and the sun laughs" while in the future believers consider it a miracle for the sun makes a sound that can be sensed with high technology. They would claim that he meant that laughter is refered to his sound vibration. Thats just a simple example. But BTW why metaphours shall make a religion so special? I mean, anything can have metaphores. Not just religion. The Koran has metaphores. Torah does. Pagan myths do. Everyone claims about his/her personal religion to be the best and true. Every religion claims that are highly mystical, deep and spiritual. Why woul'd Nietzche be wrong when he claimed that "not just theyre not deep and mystical but they don't even have a surface"? Don't they seem similar to each other and to a childish imagination? Ok, I think I'm talking shit for I didin't ask first, which words are metaphores and what do they explain. But just know that they may be interpretated in more than a meaning. Its a matter of the individual perspective. That doesn't seem to make a religion so sacred. Especialy when it is a blind religion based on fear; originating in other religions they see hostile (Christianity is an offshot of Judaism and both root in paganism). There are better religions in this world full of wisdom and beauty afterall. I worship nature, life itself. Not supersticion on an ugly dogma that turns you into a suffering sleave. LOVE not fear! True love! Self-actualisation and enlightmend. Not sleaveric humility!!!
i'm glad i found this question.it's several years old but still....basically i try to abstain from swearing because it's not polite.i think manners are sorely lacking from the world today.i don't like our senior citizens and kids haveing to listen to it....it seems to me sometimes it is done as intimidation by people that are less than self assured about their toughness..the funny thing is swearing has lost it's edge because so many people do it....try saying "darn" "oh shoot" "gosh darn it all to heck"people tend to listen more i think. the oldsters and kids can relate to things like that also.........i think i did swear on one of my posts.it was kind of an off color attempt at humor that somewhat required the world.try not swearing in public and see how much better the world sounds.just my opinion.i think you have to earn your right to swear.and unless you've been in combat you don't have anything to swear about.thank you
I feel the exact same way. It's so stupid that they are considered "offensive" they are just words. What really fucked up about it is there are words that mean the same thing that arent offensive, for example shit is a curse but poop isnt. The mean the same thing, but one is apparently "offensive". If we didnt pound it into our kids head that they were BAD words, then no one would even care, they wouldnt be offensive at all. But because we tell our kids that they are bad words that they should never say, they become "offensive". I mean of course if its used in an offense way like "Fuck you!!" then it is offensive, but they probibly desevered it anyway, lol

these are all good points.and i'm not saying censor any words.i respect everyones opinion on this because i do value free speech.it just seems to me it's like sound pollution.i like living in this northern city because in the winter i can go out walking and biking without haveing to hear the over used cuss words.i truly respect others opinions but i choose to carry myself with quiet dignity.george carlin was great.the world including my self miss him.lenny bruce was another great.i think we should put politness inyo our kids brains.
Why? Because swearing is low, crass, annoying to listen to, makes you sound like trash and a simpleton, and is all around not needed. People should learn to control their emotions and keep them in check, so that in turn they won't feel a need to swear. In the end, it just sounds stupid. Have any of you ever walked down the street and passed a gaggle of teenagers or perhaps even older people behaving loudly, cursing, etc.? They look like simpletons, don't they? Just don't do it.
Fuck yeah there is not anything wrong with swearing around adults. But as a father I would have to say that any scumb bag that thinks its ok to swear around other peoples children should be delt with with violence.

i guess i'm old fashioned.i always have been fot that matter.good manners have always been important to me.i may not come across that way in writing but in person i try to make others around me feel at ease.it seems to me this isn't being self rightous...there's an old folk's home near me.the bus i ride often has a line going by that home the folks living there ride the bus to go shopping,meet friends for lunch etc. i feel bad when people on the busses are swearing and acting bad.the folks have lived through a depression unlike anything we are experiencing,they lived through the largest war ever known.raised kids and some of those kids died in following wars.i think they deserve dignity and respect from the rest of us..........the kids of the world i feel the same way about.let them have fun while they still can without listening to a bunch of garbage..............people have so often said of us hippies after they got to know us of how surprised they were to find out how nice and polite we are.....i'm completely for free speech.it doesn't mean we have to put off others by the language we use.i've had my say and that's all i'm goning to say on this subject.i'm not about to get into a silly argument about it.i'm not even coming back to this thread cause your earlier reactions to my words have mostly been ridiculous and like i said earlier unless you've been in combat you have nothing to swear about.thanks again.
