TULSA, OK -- A long-time Tulsa doctor has been accused of peddling pills. He's charged with 34 counts of distributing drugs and one count of Medicaid fraud. The News On 6 did some digging and found this isn't the first accusation against the doctor.
Dr. David Crass isn't just facing criminal charges. He's also being sued for medical negligence and a recent complaint with the medical board says two of his patients died from drug overdoses.
The sign out front at 17th and Boston says Dr. David Crass, MD. But state investigators say the psychiatrist wasn't so much prescribing care, as he was doling out large doses of highly addictive drugs.
The state attorney general's office sent two undercover agents into Dr. Crass' office in 2005.
The affidavit states the officer met with Crass for 16 minutes the first time. He prescribed her Adderall and Xanax, without checking her vital signs.
A month later, another appointment, another prescription. It lasted only five minutes, again no vitals were taken. The next time, the agent complained of headaches.
According to the affidavit, Crass prescribed her Adderall, Ambien, Lortab and sent her home with a sack of samples of prescription sleeping pills. She was in and out of the office in eight minutes, again no vitals were taken.
That's just part of the investigation that led to a 34 count criminal indictment against Crass. But there's a complaint on file with the state medical board that's possibly more damning.
It was filed last June, accusing Crass of overprescribing seven of his patients. The complaint says he was treating one patient for depression, panic disorder, ADHD and acute and chronic pain.
It says he prescribed the patient three psychoactive drugs and three different pain killers, plus methadone without performing a physical exam.
It also says that patient died in June of 2005 from an overdose of Xanax and Methadone.
The complaint listed a second patient that died from a drug overdose and it accuses Dr. Crass of continuing to prescribe high doses of drugs to two patients who had histories of drug addiction.
Dr. Crass did have his license suspended back in 1991 for Medicaid fraud and was put on probation for two years.
There were no other complaints until June of 2008 and he's still listed as active.
Dr. Crass told The News On 6 he didn't want to comment on the case and his lawyer didn't return any calls.

 

There are plenty of other doctors out there who give 10 times that.

A doctor I know has been responsible for 6 overdoses AND is in the middle of court right now for running an online pharmacy selling narcotics online without a prescription, and is still in the game, as a doctor still giving out scripts and taking new patients.

It's not the doctor's fault if you overdose, it's fucked up they are getting in trouble for it. Pisses me off.

I find it amazing that you have something to say about EVERY POST! You can ALWAYS outdue everyone else and constantly try to put others down.

And yes it IS their fault if you OD iand they didnt even bother to LOOK at your record, history, or bother to check your vitals before prescribing.

That is part of their RESPONSIBILITY as doctors to CARE for their patient, thus meaning they need to at least get a proper diagnosis and check all viable options. In this case, he did neither.

 

Ok, that was a bit harsh..... I'm juat pissy tonight due to lack of sleep. Sorry... I do enjoy many of your posts. They generally bring a different view to thr table, and sometimes HipForums needs that.

 

I wasn't trying to out-due anyone bro. I was just merely stating that there are tons of doctors that give out 10 times the amount of stuff that that guy was, you'd be amazed. I wasn't trying to put anyone down, either.

I am talking about, if a patient has been seeing a doctor, the same doctor, for like 6 months, and the doctor knows everything about the person, has all the proper documentation, history, charts, and DOES check the vitals every time....and this person goes home, and OD's on his medication, it has nothing to do with the doctor. The people who OD are the people who OVERTAKE their medications...a doctor can't really control that, other than to look for the tell-tale signs that they are abusing their drugs.

I wasn't really referring to the doctor in this case, that doctor was a peice of shit, and got what he deserved, but if a doctor has done everything right, and someone goes home and decides to double up on their Oxycontin and Xanax that day, and ends up dying, the doctor shouldn't be held liable if he did everything in his power to make sure that the person knew the dangers of pain medications/benzo's, and kept up to date on everything.

The doctor's I was referring to, DID all of this, they covered theirselves in every aspect. They made people sign paperwork EVERYTIME they came into the office, making people aware that pain medications are addicting, and tolerance can build up, and warned people about the dangers. They take vitals every visit, they go over your chart every visit, and they assess your pain, and go from there.

When people OD because of their own stupidity, it makes the doctor look bad, as if he was over-prescribing medication, when in reality, the person just wanted to catch a better buzz and overdid it. It's because of things like this, that people in LEGITIMATE pain, have a fuckload of a time trying to actually get their pain managed, because doctor's are so scared to prescribe anything anymore.

I am sorry I didn't explain that, I didn't mean to come off as a dick, and I wasn't trying to put anybody down.

 

Acctually, when U4ia started posting, I was gonna say something just like that one day. She/He came out of no where and seemed like S/He knew more and was better than the the rest of us, but acctually, S/he has some really good information on alot of the shit we talk about on here. I just hope S/he knows whats shes talking about

And to be honest, I apologize for coming on here acting like some know it all fuckwad....that wasn't my intention. I have been lurking for over a year, and at one point I came across a thread that made me want to post because the information was SO bad that I really wanted to make sure the person followed good advice. Ever since then, this has been my home.

I am sorry guys, I don't mean to be a dick, I just get tired of the kids in my area, and people in general, who do drugs with no disregard to what they are doing to themselves, and don't care a bit about the truth.
