i totally suggest reading the book before watching the movie. it will put things in an extra perspective, as about a 1/3 the book is not included.

my favorite missing part is definitely:

"no cop was ever born who isn't a sucker for a finely-executed hi-speed controlled drift all the way around one of those clover-leaf freeway interchanges"

its not a common quote, but its a brilliant look into his style.
