i suppose so.. but comparing it to tobacco and the fact that smoking actually kills, and is a physically addictive DRUG- i completely fail to see the correlation here. tobacco is irrelevant and think it was a poor choice to use for comparison. people shouldn't be so easily led and should think for themselves - but then again, that's the media for you.
even if images aren't photoshopped, there will often have been hours of preparation put into make-up, lighting, selecting camera angles etc to show a model to the absolutely best advantage. I think few people nowadays still believe that the camera can't lie. and if you're going to say "research [h]as found ..." please cite your sources.
Everyone with an ounce of common sense knows theyre photoshopped and whatever, personally id advise staying away from magazines like that due to the fact that theyre complete trash. Its never been a problem for me, I have plenty of real people I respect and tend to ignore trashy media like that. If you asked me to describe how the majority of celebrities looked i wouldnt have a clue Personally I plan to raise any children we have with less exposure to all that makeup, celebrities, showbiz fashion type stuff. If they get into it when theyre older then fine, Ill tell them its sometimes photoshop and makeup and let them enjoy the fun of it. But I cant help but feel there are far more important things to be spending your time on as a kid or a teen, like developing yourself inside, not fussing over what colour lipgloss some model has on
People do awful, and sometimes very dangerous, things to their bodies to try to emulate the airbrushed. Of course it's not on the scale of harm caused by tobacco products, but there is a danger to it....
...and I wholeheartedly agree with that. But like you said - of course it's not on the scale of the harm tobacco causes. Hence, my response.
people do get unreasonable expectations from photoshopped pics. i've already showed my 6 year old the difference between photoshopped pics and real pics. early education can probably save our kids from all kinds of heinous self-mutiliation and self-loathing.
i've noticed it's either an ignorance or acceptance more than "hey, sweetie, she doesn't REALLY look like that..." it just comes up when it does.
What I find more distrubing is, as I was watching, "Ads from google" scrolled across the bottom of the screen with links to diet sites and ' how to lose 9lbs fast! ' etc. Talk about targeted marketing.... creepy
I think some of those women on the youtube videos are kind of jealous, maybe they caught their husband masturbating with Photoshop pictures. They would have to put warnings on movies and TV also those lights and camera angles can make a lot of deception. But it does freak me out when I am waiting in line at the grocery store and I see Opera Winfrey on the cover of a magazine now that’s some Photoshop.. so much that it is completely unreal..
