wearing shoes cuts off foot circulation.. your foot needs stimulating. they sometimes make things you can put in your shoe that have numbs on it to help with this.

I went running a mile and a half today... wearing new balance sneakers with the sole taken out... it's very hard and flat and boring in there. My legs started getting numb! when the run was over, i took off my shoes and socks and walked all over the mats and stuff. I wonder if I could run barefoot, it would be so much fun. especially the way I went today. I went over grass, pavement, leaves, puddles.

I could do that over the weekend!
anyone ran barefoot? like for a jog?

I'd actually have a lot more incentive to run if I could go barefoot. I'd probably kill my feet if I was to do it now, though, and I'd look absolutely fucking bonkers. Walking is one thing; my mental skin is thick enough to take that. Running, though... Too much for me. Maybe when I move away from where everybody knows me. I'd love to though, and hats off to you for having the audacity to do it.

Also, whenever I hear brutal foot injury stories, it's always about a person RUNNING barefoot. Rarely is it when they walk, it's when they run. Maybe if I actually get serious about that, I'd put on some Vibram 5-fingers. They seem pretty useful.

Okay, back to the topic. About circulation. Mine is really good because of how often I try to go barefoot or wear flops. I can go barefoot in 60 degree weather, no problem. In fact, that was the temperature the first time I really walked around barefoot outside. That's why I can hardly stand to have sneakers on all day -- my feet get so damn hot. They're sweat soaked when I get home from school, but I have no choice. I walk to school and it's 41 degrees F in the mornings these days.

fuck what other people say about my running barefoot. :D

I know, I'm gonna be running on pavement, crossing intersections, theres are lots of loose rocks there... I mean, that's really all there is that is gonna hurt. but I gotta make sure i run on the ball of my foot, not my heel as much.

    ick.

I often go jogging barefoot (running shod makes my knees ache) usually on country paths, but often on the pavement. There are several barefoot marathon runners around, such as Ken Saxton. Check out his site at www.runningbarefoot.org

i never wear shoes so when i do run it is barefoot and its actually quite comfortable so long as you stay on natural ground and not pavement. i find that pavement wears off the callouses on my feet and have several times gotten avulsions from running on it.

shoes inhibit proper blood circulation leading to cold feet an other woes. blood vessels are constantly squeezed by socks and footwear and that's not a good thing. I suffered with extremely chilled feet for all my life until i chose to do without shoes. after awhile, all my circulation issues disappeared. once i couldnt help myself in winter, only a hot water bag was effective, now instead a thin blanket on my feet or common sandals without socks are more than enough, and i got accustomed to icewalking and when happens to fall, snow. sure i feel the cold but it's different form when your feet are cold from the inside.

I hike, bike, do all my work and, for that matter, do everything else I can get away with in bare feet; for all the months that my climate allows. As cold as it is here, that's still more than half the year.

I don't mean to be a PR for Nike (since I just posted about these shoes in another thread) but Nike makes shoes made for training that simulate running barefoot and I have a pair and am in the market to get my second paid [that have less cushioning and make you more at "one" with the ground underneath you!]

Not the most attractive shoes, but not too shabby either.

Glad that you found some that you like, kw23, but as far as I'm concerned, they're still shoes. Simulated barefooting is rather like simulated sex; it's just not the same as the real thing ;)

Haha great analogy. But I suppose they are suited for those times you REALLY NEED to wear proper ones..
