Didn't wanted to, but I tried to do it natural and it never worked so I did it.

First wash this morning I'll see if they become loose or not, I'm pretty sure they'll tighten up after anyway but I can't use DrBronner nor any other residue free soap, I found none that worked for me, so I use regular shampoo or another soap I got but it might be conditioning my hair.

I know some of you used shampoo bought at wal mart, NakedTreeHugger? Don't quite remember but I'll find a way to get em clean and tight hehe, after 5 months of trying I gotta find something.

Don't worry about backcombing, I think it's fine. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

I believe some sort of baking soda concotion works great for dreadies. I think just warm water and baking soda. You can add other things to it too if you wanted. Any shampoo with tea tree is good. I had a friend who used Giovanni brand tea tree shampoo and he loved it.

yup... suave daily clairfying works fine. my favorite (much more expensive) is avalon organics peppermint. it gets it squeaky clean, and i think tightens a lot, cause it strips out all kinds of moisture from the hair. the suave doesn't leave it quite as tight, but it still works great, for a SUPER low price. one bottle lasted me over 6 months, washing once a week. and it was like, under $2, lol!

you'll loose a lot of the knots from backcombing... or they'll at least get looser, but just be patient, and they'll be locked up in no time. :) there is NOTHING wrong with backcombing. sure, it's technically "unecessary" but each person's journey is unique and their own. so don't let anyone make you feel guilty for having backcombed. mine would have taken like, 5 years to dread if i went neglect... lol, i'm just not at that place in my life, so don't feel bad for backcombing! :) oh, and post some piccies!!! :D

^^ i think dr. b just doesn't work on some people's hair. i have tried and tried every imaginable way... moved, used it in different towns all across the us... it just DOESN'T work for me.

but yeah, i do know that water plays a big part of it too sometimes.

Maybe, I say maybe it's the water. Because the first time I went natural and hope for dreads 4 5 months ago I used a good soap that I thought worked good, went all well until I bought some dr bronner, my hair was full of residue even when rincing over and over and diluting the soap, did a deep cleanse worked pretty good, used the good ol soap and it went full of residue again with the soap that worked before, so maybe the water changed but I dont think so, prolly just my hair.

Didn't wanted to backcomb but 'technically' I think there's no other ways to finally get dreads, I'll post pic right now yeah. Been 2 days I'll wash each 5 days or so and I'm not sure if it's tighter or loser since I backcombed but it seems to work, just need to find the right soap to get em clean.

I guess any shampoo without conditioner in it and drying the hair should work from my experience, even full of chemical or not.

Actually my hair is strait, but when I backcomb theres curl everywhere, same happened when going natural but it didnt knoted up that much I combed it out in 2 minutes.

I want dreads but I'm really not sure if I'll get some one day, well for now thats what it seems like. I will wait a bit more.
