    Hello!

My partner and I recently started a composting toilet. It's been doing pretty well so far, but I think we may have let it get too dry, and now we've got some flies.

I've read on some other websites that you can use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap as an insecticide/insect deterrent for your lawn and garden. I was wondering if we mixed some Magic Soap with water and spritzed it in our toilet if it could help keep the flies out.

Also, I was wondering if it would hurt the friendly bacteria that's breaking down our compost.

    Thanks!

Dr Bronner's can do a lot but insecticide I don’t think so.

I would just mix a gallon of gas with a quart of oil dump it in the outhouse light it and leave for the day.

Actually peppermint oil is natures insecticide. I used to use it at a pest company to kill wasps. It does not kill them very quickly though so be careful. You should be able to order the peppermint spray online since it is all natural and not regulated.
