Hi, I have been reading about going barefoot in public, and I am quite interested in doing it. However, I have this mental block about it and I never can quite get myself to do it. I found this site and I am looking for advice or possibly meeting up with an experienced barefooter to begin together. Thanks, and I am near Chicago, IL, USA.
Hi dtb. Well I'm sure we've all been there and started out like this. It's something we really want to do but are scared the traffic will stop and everyone will stare and point at us. Believe me it doesn't happen. In my experience no one notices, or if they do, they don't care. I have been bf all round London many times and never had a comment. I think the biggest hurdle to barefooting is not treading on glass etc as people seem to imagine, but getting over the fear of comments, ridicule etc. But we only have n years on this planet, why should we let our fear of what people we don't know MIGHT say to us stop us living as we want. Hope you manage to summon up your courage and go for it. Once you have, you'll hate having to wear shoes. Good luck!
Like anything else, once you get used to it you'll be comfortable going barefoot. At first your feet will have to adjust to their new environment. Best advice is to take it slow. Don't go out all day on long walks over hot pavement. Your soles will be blistered and you'll become discouraged. Start out in the park on the grass, then the sidewalk and do what you feel most comfortable with. If you are insecure, drive to a different area where you are a stranger. This will help overcome your fears and inhibitions. Good luck and welcome to the world of barefooting!
just walk around barefoot averywhere man then your feet will start getting tougher you will be able to walk on rocks only way to do it man just dont worry about what the other person is thinking about your barefeet screw that person
What helped me was wearing flip flops, getting comfortable with your feet being exposed. From then, I would slip off them off, taking short walks barefoot. It does take time as others here say, but the payoff is worth it.
When you first start wearing flippies and/or going barefoot, it feels like everyone around you is staring at your feet! Most people don't care and they really aren't staring but it feels like it. It may take awhile to get used to but go for it. If you have nice looking feet and take care of them- show them off. Start by going bare around your house and outside. Go to the park and walk bare through the grass. Maybe hang out with some friends bare. They may make some comments at first but if they are truly your friends after awhile it won't be a big deal and they will accept it. It will be a bigger deal when you do wear shoes!! That's the way it is for me.
it's been a process for me - one which started out when we moved to our current house with a pool. Spend the summer outside BF, then progressed to driving BF. While doing this, began wearing flips almost exclusively, including the winter (Michigan). Shoe removal at the airport was the next catalyst; if I have to take 'em off - why wear them in the first place! so - I've gone from a shoe and sock guy to a BF guy over the course of about four years.
im currently in the sandels stage. i have "Jesus" sandels that are my all the time footwear. i will say, i saw a picture of Brittney spears coming out of a gas staion bathroom barefoot and it kinda grossed me out.....something about barefoot public bathrooms...
