thinking of taking a year off after highschool to go backpacking around europe.. i know it sounds crazy, but i really think it would be an amazing thing to do. and the sooner the better.. any comments/helpful hints?
yeah, but i actually think i'd learn more backpacking around europe than in some stuffy school.. of couse, living out of a backpack and sleeping in hostiles wont exactly put me in line for a great job... but still, i cant resist the thought of going to new places and seeing different things. sounds better than sitting in a classroom learning about things that dont really mean anything, hah

I have some highschool age friends who did it over summer break. they had a blast. They paid their way across Europe selling macrame bracelets. One of them discovered that there's a whole village in Hungary that's related to him. they had a village-wide party when they had translated enough to figure out who he was.
i'm also thinking of doing the eurotrail £350 for a month of train travel then i'll find some way of earning a little bit there and take some spending money wont need much for accomodation if i sleep on the train mmmm ! can't wait !
Yeah do it! I went backpacking around Eastern Europe by myself in the summer and I honestly think it's the best thing I've ever done. I had wonderful experiences! The only problem is you'll soon find out how horribly addictive travelling is Have a great time!
RaggaButterfly, how are you doing down there in Spain, backpacking on your own? Do you have anything like home to go back to when things get rough?
Man, thank you for this site. How is it possible that I - old vagabond and hitchhiker - didn´t know it? Thought, you can live free also with education Depends from your stance.
