I was looking at the chart for the United States yesterday. I don't know much about mundane astrology and coudn't figure what was going on. A friend is looking towards the countries next Pluto return, but that's a bit away yet. What planet rules the economy in mundane astrology?
I don't do mundane at all, but since the basic mechanics of other types of astrology seem relatively similar (i.e. finding rulers), I'd look at the following: The ruler by sign of the 2nd house Mercury. Mercury rules banks and commerce Jupiter. Jupiter rules fortune and substance (i.e. possessions) Jupiter isn't going to be great until early 2010 when it enters Pisces. Right now it's in its fall, which is as bad as it gets. Early next year it moves into Aquarius, which is peregrine, so it's neither good or bad. Mercury is going retrograde now and will be until Oct. 16. When it goes direct, it will be dignified by term, which is a relatively weak strength, but it's better than it is now. The Medieval predictive technique called profections, makes the current year (July 4th to July 4th) a 5th house year. This means children and entertainment. So, on the surface, this would imply that the public is distracted by diversions. More importantly, this also makes the ruler of the year Mars, since the 5th is ruled by Aries. In the US chart I have which I think is Sibley's, Mars is angular in the 7th and is dignified by term. It's relatively strong, and since it's also angular, we will notice Mars' malefic qualities this year. Interestingly, Mars also rules the 12th. This means Mars rules public enemies (7th house) AND secret enemies (12th). Secrecy is also shown here. Mars squares Saturn in the 10th (government). Saturn also rules the 2nd (finances). Saturn is still transiting the 7th house since June 19th. 2nd and 10th house matters will be highlighted until probably next summer. Basically Mars is highlighting the malefic nature of Saturn. I know this doesn't say much, but I haven't spent much time on it either. I also don't know if I trust the original chart frankly.
Supposedly the US is a Gemini... same as me, so I can see the fickleness and short attention span playing a role here. I've heard that Bush's chart is full of badness... he's a Cancer, which would explain the secrecy a bit...
Actually the US is a Cancer, and so is just like Bush. I don't know how secretive Bush would have been if terrorists werent' trying to be so secretive about their plans on killing Americans. Terrorists, are murderers. Bush is imperfect, but I would rather him be president, than an out and out ememy to our hard fought for freedom.
Venus reflects anything that we associate with, that isn't directly us (Sun) or our family (Moon). This includes our material resources as well as our friends and partners. Venus rules both materialistic Taurus and sociable Libra, so I this is pretty logical, see http://www.astrologyindepth.com/Venus The US has explosive Pluto opposite Venus right now. The opposition brings out the underground, corrupt side of Pluto, which is already instilled in the economy (2nd house) of the US.
I see now that Pluto is in, or nearing the USA's second house by transit. I also see the opposition to venus by Pluto in transit, and Plutos' natal pressence in the 2nd house. I just can't seem to find a clear picture of the US birth chart on the web. That makes it hard to see the angles correctly. It is quite obvious now that I see it; the financial crisis as identified by Pluto transiting. Thanks for clearing away the cobwebs in my Pisces Mercury mind.
I've already posted this once, it said it was done, and then didn't show - so here's hoping it goes through! I've done a bit of research on the US chart and many astrologers disagree what birthdate should be used. Many think the date of the "skirmish" that the original 13 states had which started the revolution, when they became united, so to say. I would like to run a chart for the US on my software and see what I see, you know? What date and birth place would you use?
I feel the 4th of July date is the one to use. A skirmish is just a battle. The signing of the declareation of independence was the birth of our nation. I'd say the skirmish was a sort of labor pain. I admit I have not done any research on any other chart other than the 4th, but I try to simplify things so as to make accurate predictions. The 4th of July chart is accurate in my opinion.
I have one problem with this logic, and I know I'm in the minority here. Al-Biruni, the 10th century Persian astrologer, criticized this exact logic - that cities and countries have birth times, and that time should be used as a basis for mundane astrology. He (I think rightfully) pointed out that it's difficult to really determine when a country is founded, particularly an old country with uncertain origins like England. Plus, think about something like Germany. Germany's modern borders are a result of treaties from WW 1. Nothing natural there. Al-Biruni instead said that it's better to determine what the country's ruling planet is, and thus their rising sign. He said the reason for this is that a country is an artifical construct. The land has always been there. In America's case, does our Declaration of Independance override the land that the Native Americans lived on? Could it be said that America's foundation is actually a result of the "birth chart" of the land that America sits on? In Arabic texts, there are long lists of ruling planets for various nations. Generally they are using the logic used by Al-Biruni. Plus, mundane astrology is probably the most complicated version of astrology. In order to do this, and determine a good mundane chart, we will have to work backwards. We would have to compare event charts of major events in America, combined with as many natal charts of American presidents, and hopefully even the founding of major cities. I doubt it's as simple as just saying July 4th 1776, we're done!
that makes sense. I like the use of the term "labor pains". I figure the signing of the declaration is like the signing of a birth certificate...
ok, and I should know this but I don't - was it signed in Philadelphia or where? Wasn't Del the 1st state? what birthplace would you use? ps - just found out it is Philadelphia! Out of curiosity, will be doing my own chart now - just to see what I see
Well I think that the birth chart is a symbolic thing. It is difficult to say that we do not exist as real entities before taking that first breath of fresh air, and yet our birth chart as calculated for that moment is an amazingly accurate reflection of our personality. We may have "skirmishes" in the tummy of our mother, and yet we calculate the chart for the moment we are "officially independent". I think the same logic should be applied to states, and I find I get the most descriptive charts for dates celebrated as "independence days".
