Right guys, Just wanted to hi say as this is my first time on here. I reckon i posted this in the wrong place earlier so i'm trying again, I am about to start growing for my first time, I just want to see if my set up is cool? I am goin to grow in the loft, i have made a metal frame 1m x 1m x 1.3m. I have cladded that with reflective film. I have a 400watt gro lux light. Brought some good soil that my mate uses and reckon is good. Brought a electric heater to keep the temp up. Also got some eco-grow to feed it. I am going to grow one whire widow plant. Any advice and comments please. Thank you for you time.

    Welcome!

First off please specify what you mean by reflective film.

Soil should always be new, unless you have nurturing it to grow in. Just go buy a bag of potting soil, never know what was in your friends.

I seriously doubt you will ever need that electric heater, your growing with a 400 watter, that will keep temps HIGH as it is. If anything, youll need an extraction fan and some oscillating.

Do not grow just one plant. Disease, sex, poor germing, overwatering, and so on all play a factor in your plants growth, and more often then not, one of your plants will die, dont take that risk. Get 4 or 5 plants germinatingi in damp paper towel, and plant them into some fine soil. Remvoe dead plants, and the males, and you should have around 2 left give or take.

Besides that, SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN!

    Keep us posted,
    THeo

One plant is a waste of light.

Grow 6, and than cut back to 3 or 4 females when they sex.

The reflective film i am using is thremal grow, The soil i got is new, its the same as my mate uses. where you say i don't need a heater, i am growing in my loft and the winter is coming soon. Does the light give off that much heat? how far away from the plant shall i have it? I don't want to grow to many as where i am its not the most legal thing to do. Cheers

i see what you mean about the light being hot enough to keep the temp up. I just rigged it all up and got it going and took the temp. I read 70.5*F, which is about right, isn't it?? Looks like a got a spare heater which is good cause me feet are a bit chilly. How much watering do i need to do? Do i what when its dry or keep it moist? Can't wait till i got i nice big plant on the go!!!

    70.5 is perfect.

You should really take into account our suggestions of growing 1+ plants. 1 is a complete was of time and light.

As far as watering goes, under that light, Id say every 2 days, let the soil stay desert like and very dry for 12 hours, as the roots get oxygenated.

I qoute Jorge when I say "underwatering is far better than overwatering."

If your in the states, theres no legal diffrence between 1-99. So if you had one plant, you COULD be given a similar sentence to someone who has a 90 plant jungle. Thats why SOG is very very risky.

Make sure to keep your plants off direct contact with the floor. The chilly floorboards will possible stunt growth.

Your loft, will probably be pretty dry i assume. If so, mist your plants every day with a low low concentration of fertilizer, or just plain water. If the loft is damp and humid, get a dehumidifier and set it to 55 %, which is ideal.
    GOOD LUCK

    ps
again please consider germianting three plants at least.

right i am going to get a couple more plants started then, just so i'm not wasting any time. When you say mist the plants, do i need to just spray a few times just to lightly moisten the leaves? I heardn that if you let them dry out a bit it incourages the THC to the the leaves! Ant truth in this?

FYI: Sativa's like more heat than indicas.

    75 F to 85 F (depending) is about right. 70 is a bit cool.

As a general rule, weed plants like pretty much the same temp you do.

You may need the heat in the winter. The light alone might do the trick in a closed space, but circulation is also important. Little CO2 equals little growth.

How can i combat circulation and C02? Do i just need a simple little fan? Cheers

You could bring in air from the outdoors, and supplement that with the heater your bought, to keep the temp right. You might need a couple of days to get the temps just right.

I would just spray your plants once a day, until water is slowly dripping off the side. I have always done this indoors and out, and it always seems to help.

70 degrees is what i try and keep at. My living area the ac is kept at 70, so give or take a couple degrees i have ideal temps.

I didnt know it was sativa, maybe you might want to put your heater on low during th winter to heat the room a couple of degrees.

Personally, unless I'm foilar feeding, I never mist the plants.
It never seemed to help, and is potentially dangerous around hot bulbs.

To increase CO2 you can build a CO2 pump, i.e. vinegar dripping into baking soda.
Additional CO2 will give dramatic results.

its 60/40 sativa to indica. One of them poked its head through today i am so excited. i'm like a kid. I'm gonna put the heater on low during lights off to keep the temps up. At lights on the light keeps it at a good temp so hopefully that should do it!!

70 degrees is too cool for either sativa or indica strains,75 in perfect with nights being 65.Foliar feeding is a waste of time if you use ferts on a regular basis unless you are trying to quick remedy a deficiency as uptake of nutes is quicker via foliar feeding.Co2 is not recommended unless using air cooled hoods as fans will disperse the co2 every where but where needed,COSTLY.Peace
