Hi, After one year this month I'm thinking of combing it all out and re-doing it. The reason, of less importans, is that I've crocheted (spelling?) them. Or, well, it wasn't only me it was some other persons doing it too and now it feels kind of bad 'cause I want other energies in my hair than theirs. Then the hair continued the process after being crocheted and it ended up in fat lumps. And one thing more, when I started just backcombing it was all growing together so when crocheting we cut them apart near the roots so it's a lot of short hair which is not dreaded and I think much of it is too short to dread this month. The hair just feels "worried", not calm so to say. Does anyone have some tips for me? How can I get it all out? Will conditioner really help when combing it out? Someone who have re-done your dreads? Because I'm thinking of doing it all over after a while. How long should I wait befor I make new dreads? Hope you'll understand me. English isn't my first language. /Gabriella
anything thatll condition the hair will make it easier to comb out - when i got rid of mine i actually used the knotty boy removal kit, with extra conditioner & washing up liquid (it all helps to detangle it) soak yer hair reaaallllyyy good, put a load of conditioner on and really massage it in, spesh at the ends, and keep applying it as you comb it out, thats what i did and it worked (8 month old dreads took about 7 hours with 3 people doing it, but we saved most of my hair) to be honest, the day after i got rid of them i regretted it.. it was weird, my hair went really thin but i didnt like it.. so i got my dreads back, a year after id got rid of them. i prolly coulda got them back sooner cause my hair had thickened and grown quite a lot, but i waited til march this year and had them put back in it seems a shame to get rid of them after only one year - i was ganna get mine crocheted, but couldnt afford to
I have crochet dreads, theyre all fuzzy now after only a month. havnt had the chance to get them retouched and was advised here not to. I know another guy with crochet dreads which he had untangled using a lot of conditioner and just plain untangling by hand. he did manage to untangle it after a few days but a lot of hair fell off and he ended up just shaving his head
Oh, doesn't make me too happy about combing them out right now after reading these endings. But I've thought of combing out just one part of the head, re-doing and then later take the other part. Like the top of the head first and then in the neck after the new dreads have been in for a while. Might work? And won't change the hair too much like it would if I did it all at once.
many times ive heard about crochetting causing problems and wjhen your dreads grow in naturaly you either have to have a distinct line beteween natural and crochetted or continue crochetting for life or untill they breakfrom all the dammage if u want to start over do it genrly as u can wghich means extreme conditioning combiung very sliw and gently from the ends towards the roots may take days once its out deep clean to remove the conditioners then do not "put them back" let them come back naturaly any more dammagr e done by backcombunbg wull mean hair loss you already done plenty of dammage just let them grow healthy or leave em in let em fgrow and if u hate the crochetted pats cut em off right where the crochetted meets the natural
wow. i feel very relieved(again)! natural method is such a badass method for dreading up. i really think this forum site is a must-find for everydreadhead boys and gals. xD
Erm, I feel bad for not knowing...But how do you crochet in dreads? I've heard about using a hook to tidy ends and wispy bits up is that the same thing?
kindsaa but dont do it poking holes through dreads weakens dreads everyuy 1 hair u pill in breaks hugfresds more which can come out dreads are best when left alone pretty much they srent 0 meaiuuntaniance but nearly..the less u doi the better the more u do the more likely u will cause problems
This is an old pic from around 8 months I think. 3 months after chrocheting. I'll maybe post some new later. We'll see...
the picture is kinda small but they look fine to me... not abnormally lumpy or anything. If you do end up wanting to take them out I've heard combing them with a fork helps
after a rerasaaaly goof conditioning.. literaly soal the hair in olive oil.. then commence the combing from the very tip slowly upwards if theyre really slick with oil it will be easier but will lkook gross and oilyt till u wash it a time or 2
