I got a less agressive version of this when i went to give blood, i ended up with four or five nurses questioning me, asking the usual questions, how did i get them? do i wash them? and stereotypically do i like reggae? lol, it was kind of cool as they were generally interested. I wish i had £10 for everytime someone asked if I wash my hair though, or "insert typical dread question here"
the only thing I ever get called is hippy, but that's nothing new. I even joke about it (I do not consider myself a hippy by the way). and it was just by friends anyway.
I haven't had my dreads for too long, but I'm being called "wannabe-hippie". And then the most annoying question, that I still don't really get: "how long are you gonna keep them?" I usually just answer - "until I don't want them anymore" And then yeah, the normal questions about washing my hair and bugs. But most people say they suit me. As a friend said - the only thing I can regret, is not having them done earlier! Nice comment!
My (6 year old) nephew told me that I needed to cut my hair, my boss at FedEX teases me alot, I had two girls to tell me that I should stick to a John Legend look and long dreads wouldn't look good on me and I would look ridicilious...lol
i work with a bunch of hippies and this chick has the sweetest dreads i've ever laid my eyes upon but yeah, some dude who came in went up to her and said 'aren't there like, cockroaches in there?' and she was pretty annoyed with that remark.. one of my good mates only ever gets compliments on his, they are natural dreads and way cool. i plan on getting some sometime! peace. your dreads are divine
how id respond to that "there used to be a family of em, but they moved out cockroaches need a dirty environmemnt with alotta food lying ariund, they were starving in my nice clean dreads so moved..arent they living with you now?"
Yesterday, I got to see a friend I havent seen in more than a year. She was telling me that I looked rad with dreads, and that I should have gotten them a long time ago. But her boyfriend was like "Dude, your hair looks like ass". And I proceeded to say to him "Exelent..thanks man" He diddnt quite know what to say. Then I told him one of the main reasons Ive dredded is because its such a statment aganist our modern super vain society. I think he was just super jelous though..
I work in an art gallery and rub shoulders with a lot of eccentric artists. they pretty much love the dreads. I just hate it when people think that your dreads are all dirty and think that you dont wash them at all.
i live in UK so i ofcourse get the stereotypical shouts of `mosher', `dirty goth', `hippy', and the like although I've been getting such comments for about 3 years, so I've pretty much learnt to ignore the people that apparently have the insult capacity of small children however, i have yet to be called poopoohead
a coworker always says his gonna grab me by my feet and mop the kithchen floor with me, he's friendly joking but i think it's kinda funny
i have been asked if i wash them and told that people with dreads don't wash them, and i say well i have had them over three months, does my hair look like it hasn't been washed in 3 months"? how stupid could people be my hair doesnt look dirty at all plus my bangs aren't dreaded and they always are/look very clean and healthy
oh yeah and i saw an ex boyfriend the other day, hadnt seen him since i started the dreads- he thought that people put cowshit in their hair to make dreads and asked me if i did that (he was serious he wasn't joking) and i was like well you're standing right next to me do i smell like cow shit lol no i smell like gucci envy me so envy this motherfucker then he tried to get me to go to his house, i know what he wanted, i said nope i have to go to the field and get some more cow patties...he couldn't stop laughing lol
my friend calls me mop top lol but thats not an insult , other than that i havent had any insults (but i'm sure everyday people keep it to themselves or tell others when i'm not around)
Im at highschool and one of my teachers despises my dreadlocks, he is convinced im filthy, dont wash my hair, and dont care about my appearance, then theres all the strange looks from people as i walk down the street, i dont care, i am who i am and im not going to change because a few small minded people have an issue with knotted hair peace and knattyness
