Tell me about it. My hair still doesn't quite look dreaded, although someone who I haven't seen in months came up to me yesterday and the first thing she said was "HOLY SHIT! You dreaded your hair!?", so I guess they're more noticeable then I thought. If all of my dreads were as tight and knotted as the roots are, I'd have full on dreads. Unfortunately, the ends don't seem to want to cooperate like the roots. And the roots can be sneaky little fuckers, forming congos before I can find them in the early stages, by which time they are more like conjoined-twin dreads. Connected at the roots, but separate towards the ends. I'd have no more beads in my hair if it weren't for my valiant efforts to make the congos finish their job!
mine are the same way, especialy after i shower or when i wake up. i find that it's easier to rip them apart when they are wet.
Exactly. I've even been known to rip them apart in the shower, meticulously. It's the easiest way. Is your hair naturally curly/frizzy? Mine most definitely is, and I'm wondering if perhaps that's why my hair seems to congo. Anyway, these are pictures of my "natural" hair, to give everyone an idea as to why my hair may be uber congo-prone. (These are REALLY old pictures, because before I got dreads, my hair was very short. And when my hair is uber short, it's too thick to show it's "true" curls)
my hair is straight but it was very damaged by chemicals because i used to dye it constantly, i think if i would have put a stand of my hair under a microscope it would have jagged pieces sticking out everywhere and thats why my hair used to tangle so easily and now congos easily, also i roll around in bed when i'm sleeping and this puts alot of friction in my dreads
i have a couple cowlicks because i cut a congo and now the short undreaded hair left over sticks up right on top of my head but i spray it down with salt water every few days and they stay down
