anyone delt with thier children self hurting themselves when they get mad and they dont get thier way? I thought it was a phase, but its been a couple years, and my 3 year old boy still bangs his head on the hardest thing he can find when he's upset. im worried. is it a phase? or should i be more worried than i already am?

*hug* that's difficult, hon. I'd need to know more about him to say whether or not you should be worried. Does he speak? How much language does he have? Does he tantrum often? Does he eat well? Does he have many quirks? Is he affectionate?

kai used to do that, but she outgrew it pretty quickly. it was before she was able to speak and she'd get really frustrated. i didn't really do anything except protect her head.

My boys went through phases like that, but as KC said, it didn't go on for too-too long.

I was really worried on several occasions and spoke with their pediatrician about it but he assured me that it was a phase they'd more than likely outgrow. Also, I believe that they were doing it for the reaction I'd give, meaning, I'd freak out and panic when they'd do it. ;) Once I stopped reacting (I would start talking abut something else to divert their attention or start singing a silly song!), it eased up until eventually they stopped altogether.

{{{Hugs}}} I'm assuming you've spoken to his pediatrician about it? What does he/she think?

My son did that, I ignored it for the most part.
He would have his head absolutely PURPLE and swollen. He grew out of it, I actually don't remember how long it went on.

My son did, and still does that. Mostly, it's a phase that they outgrow. In my son's case, it is not. Look at other factors, like speech, empathy, etc. Mom always knows when something isn't quite right. If you have a feeling, don't ignore it!
