i dont know if this has been mentioned here already but, this gas spike has nothing to do with supply or the price of crude. it has to do with the chemical corridor taking a direct hit from ike. they fully expect damage to the refineries there. that is where 1/4 of our oil is refined to gas..
can the spike be construed as gouging? i guess, but i see it more as a way to force rationing for what very well may lie ahead and last a good long time..

a post from another board this morning by someone with emergency management in houston.

I honestly, really didn't take that into consideration and it does make sense overall.

I see it similar to spanking a child BEFORE they do something wrong 'just in case'. Raise prices AFTER it happens, not before.

Actually what makes me mad is this whole thing was totally unnecessary.

President Eisenhower said it was imperative for national sovereignty and defence that we develop synthetic fuel. (this is public information and no I was not around then, I learned it researching)

The next administration cut funding for this.

Also there are plenty of non food alternative fuels that could be used now.

Grow them in Central America using cheap labor. It would help the developing countries economy plus would decrease our dependence on oil from countries who want to kill us.

Some of you think this is just talk. I have 300 acres of Jatropha curcas growing right now.

In 5 years all my cars, trucks and tractors will be 100% biodiesel from other plants I am working with.

i by no means am taking up for the evil bastards, but this old bugger from the other board dilli knows is legitimate and dont have nothing to do with the oil companies or the federal government, and he says shits gonna get fucked up there, and it probably will disrupt supply..

While it will disrupt supply, supply is also going to increase at the same time.

There is no need to pre-emptive strike it with a price hike. If anything prices should have stagnated because there was an expected price drop heading our way and then this counters that.

There's really no excuse for a 12% increase over night with no variable changes.

You lot should look at what fuel prices are in England! :)
About 8.9 USD per gallon for petrol!

Its an even bigger eye opener when u see how the British oil business works.
BTW - my ears pricked up when u mentioned the above , Unknown American.

In one way or another it affects anyone who participates in the economy- but I digress...

Did my four mile power walk today and I pass three gas stations about halfway through and their prices are about the same as they have been over the past couple weeks so maybe there's some collective gouging going on in your area? Of course the petroleum industry is allowed to rob us so I guess it's all perfectly legal.

I just called the GF and told her to fill up on the way home before they raise the price.

I don’t have to drive fuck cars anymore, but my GF needs one for her work. We got a little Honda it is ok on the gas 30-40 mpg.

The days of 4x4s and V8s are over for me.

holy crap. Just yesterday costco was selling it for 3.50. I was gonna get it there again today (i dunno how much it was but it's usually like 15 cents cheaper than everywhere else) but there were lines of cars going all around the parking lot and out into the street. I was like fuck this, and went to a gas station down the street and paid 4.77. gosh.
    This. is. fucked. DAMNIT.
I really have to find a job closer to home.
