I know very little guitar, my brother's going to start teaching me, I hope to play well some day

The thing is, I'm having a hard time moving my fingers quickly from string to string (chord to chord). Any tips? My other brother gave my excercises to strengthen my fingers, I think I'll start doing those too

Thats all you can do is pratice moving your fingers...and then after a while you will start noticing how you can move your fingers easier and your fingers can reach farther..

Yes you definately must practice all the time. Fuck around with the guitar, get to know it and know what it can do and get used to doing it. Finger exercises really help.

What I would do is play something really fast, knowing that I couldn't possibly play it well that fast. But as I improved at that speed, I found that when I went back and slowed down, it was easier for me.

it takes time and practice...believe me, if you practice a lot..i mean like an hour or more everyday, you'll eventually notice you can move your fingers much faster and can do the chords and make sound!!! i had no movement in my fingers couldnt possibly be able to make a chord sound good, but after a few months I was able to play a whole song. as long as you are dedicated you'll manage.
It's easy to get frustrated but dont give up!!!! ;)

Wear some weights on your fingers while you play. practice and practice your speed, and then after a few months take off the weights. granted, you will know have to learn not too over shoot your strings.

Just keep on playing. That's all I did, and check my music out in my sig.... That's what two years of seven hours a day will get you.

this is what i did 5 years ago when i first started playing.
never put down the guitar for the next week. that doesnt mean you have to play it, just while you watch tv or somthing, keep switching from chord to chord and youll find after a while you can do it fast and moore comfertable. do this for a week. trust me is works.

Just try to play stuff faster each time and calisis will develop on your fingers. Just play until you have a burning/blister feeling in your tips.

"I've got blisters on my fingers!"

The key is not speed but accruacy, you do the basic spider exercise and gradually work your speed up.

Powerchords are... worthless in my opinion... there are a few chords like F#m and C#m... things like that that are worth some... and of course a few barres in jazz.... I do modified and hybrid barring... at least I call it that.

Also, remember to warm up before you play. Stretch and play your scales. Alot of people don't and they really pay for it in the end.

I've never played a scale intentionally in my life. I do pentatonics though... but it's all by ear for me. I never intend to. http://www.sounclick.com/georgesnow the thing about power chords is... it's not very complex... and you can really only do a couple styles of music with it. Other than that, if you start trying to do other styles of music, you tend to be spoiled on powerchords... such as jazz, it's more hybrid... I ocassionally throw in a barre like that... somewhat of a powerchord, but then you throw in a few triad chords... but you can get hooked on powerchords. Not a very great method.
