Whaddup bros and brodettes. For my sociology class, I had to develop a survey on how music affects society, and my teacher told me I can post it on the internet. So if you can all kindly do it, that would be a huge help. I need as many results as I can get. So please, help me get an A and hopefully lead me to impress my dad with honors this year and help me get a car.

5.The type of music is irrelevant, but playing music in general is what I want to for a living.

    6. For myself positive....because its what I want to do. For society, both positive and negative. Society doesn't really encourage me to become a rock star (as opposed to a doctor or lawyer) but I guess it gives me the chance to entertain society.

    7. No

    8. I don't understand this question very well sorry. I obviously don't take bands like Bloodhound Gangs lyrics seriously....but something like Dave Matthews Band is taken more literally.

    3. Race - white

    4. Favorite Genre (please don't list sub genres, this needs to be kind of simple) - alternative

    5. Does this type of music affect your way of living/attitude towards life? - sometimes, depends on the day

    6. If so, in a positive way towards yourself and society or a negative way? - negative in the sense that i don't care about anything that doesn't have to do with myself or what i believe, and that can come off as arrogant to others. positive, though, for me because i feel i have the power to pick and choose my battles.

    7. Does this music affect the way you dress? - yes.

    8. Do you take the lyrics of the music to literally? - don't understand the question

    9. Do you feel that music is better on drugs? - not really

    10. Do you consider your favorite musician a role model? - not for me personally, because i don't have the same problems that he did. but for those who have those problems, i could definitely see him being a role model.

    6. Depending on what's going on it in my life it varies, it sometimes is a great tool, but can often be my weakness and lead to depression if left unchecked.

    7. Not really, I dress comfortably to what meets my tastes.

    8. Yes, the lyrics of a song have great meaning to me.

    9. Definantly, when I'm in a more positive mood the positive parts of the song like not giving up help me tremendously, also some music sounds much better while under the influence.

    10. No, musicians to me are simply the creators of the medium not a role model.

    4. Favorite Genre (please don't list sub genres, this needs to be kind of simple) Ska/Punk Reggae/Dub.. atm.. i'd say jambands overall.. but thats probably not a genre since you said it had to be simple or would be catagorized under "rock" when its not all rock.. so Ska/Punk will be my 2nd choice

    5. Does this type of music affect your way of living/attitude towards life?
Some music can open your eyes and change your life.. i have ran across many bands in all genres that have influenced my life

    6. If so, in a positive way towards yourself and society or a negative way?
Myself.. good.. Society.. as a whole.. negative.. but that's also cuz of my lack of social interaction to begin with.

    7. Does this music affect the way you dress?
no.. unless im wearing a bands tshirt i gues..

    8. Do you take the lyrics of the music to literally?
what would be too litterally? cuz i mean.. yea leftover crack says shoot kids in school.. but im not gonna do that.. be wookiefoot says If the path you walk is a circle it will always bring you home.. welcome home i can believe in that

    9. Do you feel that music is better on drugs?
Sure.. lots of drugs and alcohol can make shitty bands tollerable

    10. Do you consider your favorite musician a role model?
Sure.. his words make me think a lot.. and question things.. actually it'll sound weird but i had this episode the other day while thinking back to something that he said while performing about how we can change things in 08 with voting and i was questioning it.. how can things change when there is no change to choose from in the election.. is there a better of the two? and it made me sad.. my eyes got teary.. and its like i try to live in sanity but in this crazy would of insanity how does one stay sane.. ah.. fuck im gonna stop ramblin about this.. totally for another discussion.. but i think i did answer the question

    4. Favorite Genre (please don't list sub genres, this needs to be kind of simple): I find that I like to listen to all types of music but I would say that Alternative or Rock would be what I am currently listening to. I have listened to a lot over the years, don't get me started on the 80's.

    5. Does this type of music affect your way of living/attitude towards life?
Not currently. It is just part of who I am as a whole. I don't let my choice in music affect the way I live. It may have in the 80's.

    6. If so, in a positive way towards yourself and society or a negative way?
I would say it is positive because I like to sing with my music and that make me happy. So if I am happy that is better. I also tend to pay more attention news reports or people who mention the people I listen to.

    7. Does this music affect the way you dress? No. I dress for work. If I am casual I might wear a band T-Shirt. That's about it.

    8. Do you take the lyrics of the music to literally? No. They often make me think about things, but I would not think that they should be taken to heart. I think it has a lot to do with the type of music that you listen to however. For example, people refer to the backwards music and messages, especially in some older heavy metal music. I am not going to worship the devil because a record told me to but I can see the argument in Rap albums that they often talk about Thug Life. Again, it does not affect me personally.

    9. Do you feel that music is better on drugs? I find when I am stoned that I pay more attention to the music and let if flow through me. If I am listening to something that makes me want to dance and I am baked I am like some hippie at Woodstock doing a dance in the middle of a field.

    10. Do you consider your favorite musician a role model? When I was younger, I wanted to be Billy Joel. I learned to play the piano and I would write music. I even had some intrest in being in a band and the music I wrote was pretty good. At least good enough to be looked at by a professional and they considered buying my songs. That however is another sad story. I can't listen to Billy Joel now but that is because my ex and I used to be really into him.
