I have read on here somewhere that saltwater spray is good to help your locks along. I cant find the thread so I was hoping that someone could help me with

    1. is it really beneficial?
2 what is the mixing amounts of sea salt to water?

    Thanks!

theres hundrtesds of threads like this probly but ok whats 1 more..lol
yes it helps them tighten up
it should only be used occassionaly and not left in long 15 min to a couple hours max thgen rince out
2 tablespoons ina spraybottle of water should be plenty
as long as u dont add more then is solulable by the water your fine but u dont need it as strong as all that

remember though its corrosive and can harm your scalp if noty rinced out thoroughly after a lil while

well lemon juice im not sure is all that helpful and when exposed to sunlight or heat like blowdrying (or summer heat) it acts just like peroxide bleaching the hair, overuse can be dammaging too

sea salt unfortunately does nothing for my dreadies. I used to put lemon in my hair when I was younger to make it blonde.

i disagree, soaring eagle... i often let seasalt in my dreads for several days to a week, and have never had scalp irritation from it. i usually disolve a few teaspoons to a few tablespoons in a spray bottle of water... and then i spritz it all over and let it soak in. now if you're dunking your head in it, it might be different.

lemon will lighten your hair if you're out in the sun... don't add too much, cause it very acidic and could be yucky to your head, but it adds a nice clean scent. :)

and yes, especially when dreads are babies, sea salt sprays work wonders for tightening up. i used to do it every other day when mine were really babies. tightened those fuckers right up!

yeah i decided to try it a few days ago, but i hadn't yet known that you should rinse out- i've had it in my hair a few days now and haven't had any irratation..i was just worried about salt building up in the dreads and causing gunk build up and hindering the hair from locking if it was built up, so i decided maybe i would spray it in the mornings on wash days then wash it out in the evenings. but each person is different so i guess you can do a trial run to see how long it would take before irratation occurs, then you will know your own tolerance level and can go from there.

if it's just a "surface spray" and not deep saturating dunk, an application every other day or so with a wash once a week shouldn't really cause a build up gunk. salt, (unlike wax, lol) is soluble with water, so it should wash RIGHT out! :)

thats what i thought:) thank you. a certain person i know always gets toothpaste on the ends of his when he brushes his teeth and leens over to spit it out of his mouth lol, and he just walks around with green toothpaste stuck to the ends of his dreads, ehhkkk. i get a little over-worried about gunk build up lol.

eh... it's next to impossible to NEVER get toothpaste in the dreads. and who the hell is gonna wash 'em just for a little toothpaste?

i walked around for a whole week with about 5 of my dreads stiff and stuck together cause someone "missed" with some body fluids while we were doing the horizontal hula. whatcha gonna do?

as long as it ain't wax, it most likely won't really hurt your dreads.

except for burrs... those suckers are horrible. stay away from them! (ask SE... if i remember correctly he has a WICKED story about those buggers)

oh god you're scarring me! burs! omg. and the other sticky stuff lol
but seriously, he would have a huge gob of toothpaste stuck to a dread and it looked funny cause his hair is black and the paste was neon green

a burr is a seed or dry fruit in which the seeds bear hooks or teeth which attach themselves to fur or clothing of passing animals or people. The hooks or teeth can be irritants and very hard to get off of clothing, such as wool or cotton. It was the inspiration for Velcro.

You telling me some of you would walk around with cum and toothpaste stuck in your dreads, rather than run them under the tap for a few minutes? ....
