planning on getting them in december, i read that you need 3-4 inches of hair to backcomb and i should have 3.5 inches by then

when can you wash your dreads after getting them backcombed, and when they go out of form from washing them should you back comb them again or what?

    thanks in advance :]

you've come to the right place.

throw on a wool hat, wash with dr bronners soap once every 3 days, come december you'll have some knots to start them dreads. you may even decide you dont need to back comb.

    good luck.

yeah don't even bother back combing
    just let 'em be
and play with them with your fingers, rubbing the dreads
    they will grow beautifully.

    it will take years....

I do agree, this waiting whole years things seem like a fair bit of bullshit. Fair enough, you say use fancy soaps, dont backcomb, etc but by that time, no one will care.
Just grow your hair long enough, back comb and twist into dreads, not using wax is the only thing i agree with you people about.

and when i'm allowed to wash them after backcombing

i wouldnt advise backcombing, i did and now i've got too many loops and bumps everywhere. i washed mine after one week and they came completely out (i hadnt backcombed at that point) so i guess i would say wait as long as you can stand it to wash, the first time i dreaded my hair i washed after 3 weeks but by that point my scalp and hair was so filthy and disgusting i coulodnt stand it anymore.

backcombing a second time i have heard is dangerouse and can weaken your dreads leading to fall-out later on

if you dont mind the loops, you can backcomb- i don't mind my loops. i beleive my hair would take waaaay to long to dread with out backcombing (i do have a limit to my pacience) i didnt backcomb my bangs (which are 10 inches long) and i dont comb them and they havent sectioned let alone dreaded. but alot of people complain about loops and bumps when they get them (allthough many people also love them)

Just watch how long it takes for your tiny dreads to grow long and form.
    It will take years.
    You think that's funny?

    ?

    Go ahead. Watch and learn.

i'm not taking years to grow tiny dreads, i'll just section and backcomb into medium dreads

anyway, what do the bumps and loops look like on dreads?

    like that.
after a while, the bumps and loops flatten down and become smooth with the core of the dread.

so if the bumps flatten down, quicker than the years it takes to grow them naturally, surely thats the better option? You still get the same results, just a slight chance your hair will fall out in places.

You also all seem to forget many of us have jobs, and can't go into work with scragy hair, or a greasy dreadlocked mess which ain't been washed in weeks.

Nor can we wear hats to work, so we get put in a bad situation. I can't take several years off work to grow dreads. I may as well debate not bothering now. :/

atural dreeads dont take several tears

iv seee natura dreads form in weeks..or even overnight
some may take months..up to a yearnevr head of ny taking longer then a year
you guts are totaly missing the point
    stop combing
    use dr bronners
keep them clean washing weekly at least
by december you most likely will have drteads
nbefore u go through the pain of backcombing
    why wait\
begin today and by the time you are ready to make your manufactured dreads you almost certainly will already have beautiful natural dreads or at least be off to a great start

backcombing or neglect doesnt matter u will always go rhrough a messy period aned no matter what it all comes down to neglect in the end
backcombing fallds apart6 and neglect takes over
backcombing doesnt give u dreads..only time and neglect dos..backcombing in most cases is a wasted painful and dammaging step

    try it and see

look backcombing is totaly a new idea
    wax too
these things never ecxisted before a few years ago
dreads have happened in every type of hair since the beginning of time
babies can get dreads in thre finest baby fine hair
dreads are a natural hairstyle no they are the natural state of hair
all your life u worked to prevent dreads now all u need to do is allow them
