I agree. Philosophy of religion, and culture class electives in school are amazing. But as a public school, to teach creationism, no way
i remember it being taught grudgingly in school. we thought it was funny. it took all of 5 minutes. the discussion of WHY it was being taught took at least a week. now THAT was interesting.
I think in the case of most cynical democrats it's not that they are actually exhibiting sexist behavior but trying to mirror how the GOP would've responded if the roles were reversed. Most of the comments I've heard have been aimed at the tacit hypocrisy demonstrated by republicans at supporting someone less experienced than obama when they've been such critics of inexperience. I think most of the dems railing against Palin are just trying to show that Mccain's vp choice was wholly political and reactionary and inconsistent with his "country first" sentiments. To attack Palin's inexperience and character is an unfair and ineffective way to expose it and is the response the GOP was banking on. Whether some of the dems really are sexist I can't say but there's always bound to be some in any group.
obviously so. basing all one's responses on pettiness and politics and a snearing good time, without regard to whom you may be hurting, is never the way to go. i've done it loads of times. all it does is make you look like an asshole and a hypocrite twice over.
Debates and discussions with a professor surrounding relevant issues, are my favourite part of open minded, leniant classes.
palin isn't much of a threat, and will be easy to get rid of if she ever gets troublesome. all they gotta do is release those playboy pics.
this is a valid point, i won't say who brought it up. Gov. MILF [Sarah Palin] "earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live. After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the...l?hpid=artslot
this does not surprise me as i've long observed that anti-abortion types aren't usually very interested in adopting unwanted children or supporting single moms struggling to support their children. this type of hypocrisy is a hallmark of the anti-abortion mindset far as i can tell. they seem to pretty much just focus their energy on preventing women from having reproductive choices, which is just another way of crippling women and preventing them from having any power in the society since they're too busy struggling for mere survival.
and on the other side, god forbid one should have an opinion. it makes the old school boys wet their pants in fury. i don't see palin really contributing to mccain's cause.
in the sense that obama and biden have dropped out of the public eye pretty much, i think she's contributing.
KC, my problem with her as a mother, is that she has a 5 month old infant, a special needs infant. If she were working a 40 hour a week job, I'd not bat an eye. Women do that all of the time. But the fact remains that she left a month-early downs baby to go to work 3 days later. And now she's up for a job that would have her doing PR, traveling, and leading the Senate probably a good 90 hours a week. The VP is not a cake-walk. Do I think every woman needs to be in the home? Gods, no. I'm a working momma too. But I do not think that a momma needs to essentially abandon an infant that needs her more than any other person in his life so she can be the VP. If he was older, in my eyes, it wouldn't be as big a deal.
what's her husband doing for a living? not being mother of the year doesn't really factor into my critique of her as a candidate.
it looks like palin is a SAHD and active community volunteer. perfectly acceptable situation for raising a special needs child, i think.
Sarah Palin is not a SINGLE mother! The father lives with the family, so it isn't like the kid's been abandoned! What's wrong with Palin's husband picking up the major part of the parenting while she's in office?
she runs a whole state and he works for an oil company. i'm sure their 5 kids get lots of quality time. but then, no one ever thinks about whether male candidate's children are neglected or not.
No one family is perfect. I hope to be about as busy as Palin with the same size family when I am older.
well, i suppose the kids get as much quality time with her as all the men's families get time with them. not everyone is going to do well staying with the kids. love does go a long way, though. both my parents worked for the first part of my life. i'm fine.
