Sometimes...out of nowhere (often when I'm busy with a piece of artwork that I've spent one and a half hours Cging, and haven't saved the progress because I'm stupid >:X ) a blue page takes over my screen saying " unknown page fault " and I have to always restart my computer after this happens! I know that this is very common on Win2000 ( a stupid, vulnerable softwear...) systems. But why? What exactly causes this crash? Any tips to prevent it? It can't be spywear or viruses,trojen,worm,etc.etc...since I've got one of the best antivirus sofwears in the world,...-Norton. I also have a spyblocker. So what's the damn Windows 2000's problem??? ( I already miss my Windows 98 in Florida... , it may have not been as fast, but it's definently more robust!!)
I had that problem when I got my new laptop. Turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. That may be your problem, particularly if it happens when working with graphics, which are huge memory hogs. Or maybe you just need more memory.
Oh...so it's a memory problem? Thanks! But I can't imagine that happening to my computer, since it has 3 times the memory my emachines in Florida has. It's just strange...why does it run out of memory faster? Atleast my Win 98 over there warns me before it runs out. Here it just does run out. Man...one of the most important things were lost in the development! But thank you very much!
next time you get a blue screen write down what it says then someone can let you know what the problem is, could be anything from the info you've given...
Now, now no need for lying. It's because Window's sucks. And it may be a memory problem...you could go to a computer store and ask how to fix it. They should have the memory thingy you need if not they can order that stuff.
Well, there are a lot of factors that can contribute to memory problems. A stick can be going bad. If that's the case, sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. Then eventually it will just quit. Memory is also affected by the applications you are running in the background. If you have any spyware installed, that can slow it down. Antivirus software can slow it down. Also, it could be that the memory on your graphics card is not enough. If you're running a machine with Win 98 on it, I'm guessing it's fairly old. It might not be sufficient for what you are doing. But yeah, the most common cause of the Blue Screen of Death is bad/insufficient memory. Try cleaning off any spyware, turning off your antivirus software or anything else running in the background (make sure you are not connected to the internet when you do this), and then try to work on the graphics and see if it fails. If it still fails, take it to Best Buy, or a local reputable computer store. They can run a diagnostics test and find out what the problem is. But definitely write down the exact error code you get next time you see it - that will help them pinpoint the problem. Hope you can get it fixed!
A page fault could be anything, need more details, error codes and such. 2000 is a great OS anything to come out of the NT line is much more stable and secure than the 9x line.
Okay...Thanks! It could be my antivirus sofwear...it sometimes also gets this damn pagefault when I write some really long reply that took me 5 mins. to write.... The next time the evil thing comes I'll tell you guys! I really apreciate your help! ^^
Most likley a hardware issue. "The Blue Screen Of Death" from my expierence has always been hardware related. In my opinion Win2k is the best Microsoft OS made, but all software has its problems.
the blue screen of death is an application code collision. it happens when nothing is even terribly wrong with the computer... its one of them stupid windows things that the could easily fix, but just dont in a effort to keep it from being too perfect
In my case, it was bad memory, not an application factor. The damned thing wouldn't run at all until I took it out. I got a different error message every time I saw the blue screen of death. Unless there is a different bluescreen that appears When Software Goes Bad. I haven't seen that one yet (knock on wood). The fun part was trying to write down the entire 2984234570 word message and code before it rebooted on me. Ah, good times.
