I saw some people passing through town last week in an R.V. and they have it covered with stickers, which they sell. I thought that was a pretty good idea. I've known a lot of people that will hang out in a town for a couple of weeks and will put up ads on craigslist doing odd jobs. I have done some of the day labor (Labor Ready. etc.) type things a few times, a rip off for the worker but it can get you on the road again.

Northern Cali is nice if I didn’t live in Colorado I would live there. I miss the ocean..

Making money on the road is hard I used to do construction jobs (I was a carpenter) If I was really desperate I would go to a labor ready place=rip-off but it can fill your gas tank.

Some people sell crafts like tie dies or things in concert parking lots but it can be hard to make money off things like that a lot of times.

It seems like it would be hard right now with the price of gas and the economy but wanderers always survive.

I agree about the Labor Ready thing being a rip off. I did it one time where a 60 year old guy and I (18 or 19 at the time) had to go way out in the boonies, in my vehicle with my gas. We got there and it was some kind of ranch, they told us we had to unload a semi trailer full of hay bails and stack them in a pole barn. That was a ton of work for two people to do in 8 hours or so. After all the taxes and fees and everything I brought home between 30 and 40 dollars that day. I think that was the last day I went there, I was too sore to work for like two days afterwords, I can only imagine how the 60 year old guy I was working with felt the next day.

when i had my van, playin the guitar or mandolin at the gas station seemed to work. never took longer than a half hour or so to fill up. when i was in the back pack i would play mandolin and sell hemp necklaces. usually took all day and into the night until i could feed myself, but it wasnt so bad.

Yeah labor ready is only good when you are desperate..

I’ve done it about 20 or 30 times and I never was sent to a job I would consider keeping. Usually I would have to go dig ditches in the hot sun all day or rip out plaster walls full of old insulation or some nasty hard labor.

I did it 10-15 years ago and it would pay like $6 an hour by the time they took all the taxes out and the fees I would a check for like $25-$30. It sucked.

It would be enough to fill my gas tank and buy a bag of cheap food and get the hell back on the road.

Some of those places in the cities had some crazy people..
I worked with a lot of just insane winos. They would sleep in the gutters and abandoned buildings and do day labor get the money and get fucked up on cheap booze for a couple days pass out in the gutter get up go to day labor and do it all over again.
