well considering amphetamine is alpha-methyl-phenethylamine.....amphetamine? I THINK the alpha just refers to the methyl groups position, but I could be totally wrong.
if you methylate it with methyl iodide this would add a methyl group giving you N,N dimethyl-amphetamine.. not going to get you very high
trimethyl-phenethylamine (lol)? Wow. How does methyl iodide add THREE methyl groups? That could probably be avoided by using less. Otherwise you'll over saturate the molecule with methyl groups it seems. Idk.
^ I'm no chemist but that sounds way over saturated. If anything you'd make methyl-phenethylamine. You wanna try and get that methyl group in the 'alpha' position. If it winds up in the beta position you'll be fucked. Then again I still may have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about. Google is pretty great. Search methylating phenethylamine. Then you should have a decent idea of what can happen.

well you'd end up with Diamondina (beta-methyl-phenethylamine) which is a stimulant like amphetamine with all the stimulation and none of the euphoria. That sounds quite annoying. Methylating dopamine probably wouldn't do anything useful.
