so iv only had mi dreads for like three months now and there lockin up pretty damn fast and there all matty as hell but how long does it take to actually gain ant length? oh and how long b4 the squiggles and loops go away i mean i dont mind the loops but the squiggles bother me
mine are at 3 months and only 1 has shrunk significantly (my brother disagrees and says they have all shrunk) but I've got a good 3'' of new growth at the roots, thats probably not what you meant but never mind. The new stuff is MUCH thicker than the old stuff. Some of my loops have straightened out but there are 1 or 2 dreads that are taking the piss, and are composed almost entirely of loops. I kind of get the impression they are more inclined to dread into a flat dread as adjacent loops join to each other rather than straighten themselves out.
How long was your hair when guys started? (talking to pypes and heirbear) started mine very short like 2 or 3 inches of hair and they havent shrinked or really locked nothing yet just crazy knoty hair ... I guess I'll need some patiente before they grow and lock more and look like dreads
mine was about 3' straight and 2 1/2' to 2 3/4' backcombed. The "short one" is now just short of 2'. The others are slightly shorter than they were but not significantly, especially as I dont have any measurements that haven't been pulled out my arse. It might be that the new growth is offsetting the shrinkage so I basically don't notice.
So natural dreads (not backcombed) tends to shrink a bit less exept if they are started from long hair
I started mine all natural at around 5 inches long. Now 3 months in my hair is in dreads that vary from 2inches to 5 inches in length. The hair on the sides and back of my head has shrunk to 2-3 inches while on the top I have some dreads at 5 inches that haven't shrunk much at all. I have the feeling that they will start to get length soon, as the knots go almost from root to tip on many of them. I have one dread that is flat like a ribbon. He is so sexy, I hope he doesn't ever become cylindrical.
probably wont stay like a ribbon forever no... sadly. dreads change so much man but you'll have other cool one forming and changing maybe I havent noticed my hair shrinking since it was so short so it might have grown but just slowly and shrinked at the same time I dont have very much lenght since I started them thats the reason probably, but I'm sure in 1 year they'll be shoulder lenght or so, maybe a bit shorter
ribbon dreads stay ribbon dreads. their roots are thin, rather than fat I love those paper-like dreads they are so rad. I've a couple
i started mine some were around five to six inches or shoulder length and now they are about an inch or two shorter and i backcombd them i love em so much just wish they would get longer but like my man eagle say it takes time and i have alot of it thanks guys
my dreads grow really fast, but its like one month they grow a lot, the next one not even a bit. But u cant see them shrink. They grow the same time they shrink so to the eye they just stay constant.
