just got my dreads done a few days ago cheap at an african store. they used the backcomb followed by dread perm method. after that they put a lot of wax on and i cant wash it for a month so the dreadies lock.

at the moment they are very skinny and look permanently wet. my question is will they become thicker and poofy (which is what i want) after the wax starts coming off? or will it stay skinny? i can put a pic up in a few days

No need rebackcomb. I've seen a few people get their dreads with a perm and have been sporting them for years, as long as they were back combed and permed you should be good. Although the wax is the no no part. Wash with hot water, and try to get it all out. it won't be bad if you used wax only once. Though wash your hair once a week or so, good luck, and welcome to the journey!

ok well it seems i have to wash my hair thoroughly and get as much wax out as i can. after that what should i do to possibly salvage the dreads ( i have had the perm so im guessing they'll still be intact after i wash them )

I dont even know what a "perm" is?
They use chemicals to hold in backcombing then pile on wax?
    Just get the wax out.
    Get it all out.
    *hugs*
You may want to start over :/

the perm is achemical process also a mistake a the dreads grow in there will most likelky be very odvios difference between the chgemicaly processed dreads and the actual dreads that foem on theyre own as it grows

follow the directions in the wax removal thread (recently combined with deep cleanse so u will have to read through alot to find the right info)

basdsicly use the deep cleanse combined with washing agressively withvey hot water (scolding hot 140 or hotter o be very careful not to burn yourself) ad orangfe oi (purew esential orange oiul from health hfood stors) to the deep cleranse to dsolve the wax

wax is evil makingdreads is aoximoron dreads happen n theyree own do not make dreads you cannot youcan only ceatnd try tocontrol a process thats all about giving up control

Sure you can, just keep them clean, throw on a hat, and forget about your hair for a few months :)

when i starteds these..i never heard of backcombimng i never heard of using wax in fact, id only talked to 1 dread about how to get dreads and all he said was just stop combing your hair
so i did well the 1st time i did they pulled up into 2 hoens and a pilliow on the back of my neck..
after they got cut i started again..again naturaly knowing nothing more then dreads happen on theyre own
except this time i ripped em to seperate em so they didnt become a pillow and horns

u really dont need to do a damn thing to dread..u especialy dont gottapay to dreasd
u dont need any special products (sure residue free soap helps but even thats not nesacary)
all u need to ead is o let yourslf dread.thats it..
all your life your used to taking steps to prevent dreads you becomre addicted to needing to do something toyour hair to get what you want from it cutting combimng styling applying gels creams foams u name it
its a constant battle t keep it from doing what hair doe...dread..
this addicyion carries over even after u choose to dread and u insist on palm rilling root rubbing twisting backcombing constantly doing something to get what u want
instead..just let the hair do wha it wants..it wants todread..thats its natural state...just let it
strop ighting it and let it do what it does

    its sooooo easy then
