Fair enough. I didn't mean to sound condescending toward them. Knee-jerk reaction. I apologize. It's just one of those things for me...
While I watch the show, it seems to me that its all about encouraging women to be in the consumer society and that they are unworthy if they don't buy expensive clothes or go to the hair dresser once a month. I can understand giving someone a make over when they wear clothes that homeless people or clowns would wear, but does one need to spend 4,000 bucks on clothes or a 80 bucks on a haircut every month and 50 dollars on makeup ? How can viewers take advice when most of them can't afford that much?
i hear what you're saying, but the part of these type of shows i like is when they take people who are stuck in a rut and just never consider something that actually can be very flattering to them. you can use the ideas, even if you can't afford to shop at the most expensive places. you can even sew your own clothes and use those ideas. some people just have talent and knowledge most of us just don't. my own daughter, who's a designer and has a great eye for form, color, etc., has talked me into trying things that i never would have considered that really look great on me.
I've watched these shows a few times too, and they have like a sorta therapy session at the start wen they stick them in a room made of glass and tell em to strip to there undercrackers, then discuss there failed marriages and lack of sex, like there trained councellers rather than people who can shop a lot. these people have sometimes got some deep emotional and self esteem issues going on, a slap of lippy and a fancy frock isnt going to change that!.......imo of corse. so cry away ladies, i would too if i was dressed up like a shortbread biscuit in a tartan frock with a garish handbag! and those damn cord jackets.
Hahaha. I love this show. I am not easily embarrassed by what other people say about me so I'd totally take the trip to New York and the criticism. I have no shame.
i'd probably do what i usually do and rip their fashion victim, dr. phil worshipping shallow asses and ABSOLUTELY refuse to put on one of those ugly fucking blazers or anything uncomfortable. it'd probably make for a good episode.
LOL, I look forward to that one. QFT. This has always been my biggest beef with the show... Speaking from experience, it really is easier to find things that are cut right if you spend more, but if you shop around, you can find things cheaper. I guess it's just to save time and add to the allure of being on the show. Ja. I don't agree that it's all about consumerism, though. The American version at least seems to be mostly geared toward dressing appropriately for work and reconstructing the self-esteem of the American woman.
Right. They're not crying because of social anxiety. They're crying because ppl are telling them they look like shit! I watch those shows, I'm not gonna lie. But I hate how on "how do i look" finola hughes always TRIES to make it emotional and be therapist or something. she thinks she can tell WHY such and such person is wearing what they wear, and maybe they just didn't know what to wear.... it's not always an emotional issue, about "hiding" yourself or whatever.
They do that on 10 Years Younger... I still remember the one where this one mother left her child after she divorced her father because living in the country wasn't exciting enough for her and her kid wanted to stay in the country... The host looked so disgusted when she said "well, she wasn't still attached by the umbilical cord!" Hahaha... FAIL.
Oh give me a break. This show exists because other people love watching people put down for their "terrible" taste in clothing. Being told to chuck out a bunch of things somebody likes in order to fit some made-for-TV image of fashion is absolutely ridiculous and insulting. Clothes may not define people, but they are a way for us to express ourselves, and that should be up to the WEARER, not some guy who doesn't even know you, not even your friends who arrogantly proclaim that you dress poorly.
... Have you been paying attention? Yes, that's right. I just quoted myself. I wouldn't have to if people would read the thread. I'm getting tired of repeating myself.
lol, i haven't seen that show in quite some time... but dang, those ladies they've helped out... they really needed somebody to set them straight.. lol.
