ye, crazy fuck, that's how its done in here, especially the HIGH discrimination about pauper people in here, you'll sure want to get that perfect cylindrical dreaded(though immature) hair. here in the philippines, they even wear hair extensions like crocheting a departured clunk of hair(which you are to acquire) then reattaching it to yours. haha. its funny how i see one of my co-college student even gradually attaching one after the other(so he has a very abundant dreads now). i did mine with with a very residue free hair, i washed it with baking soda deep cleaning concoction then twist and rip method. i love how it looks like. a friend even approached saying "how was the wilds? the mountains?". just keep yours very matte and you shall have no problem. an uh! use sea salt spray! thats the best thing there is. and bud, do score some of that tea tree oil, it helps really in all aspects pf dreading up. like adding it up to your cleaning agent.
Springheeleddah, do you know where to get tea tree oil locally, I tried washing for the first time yesterday with the baking soda mixture minus the tea tree and it seemed to have done the job. except my scalp is still a little itchy and Im afraid I might get dandruff.
eh, you can get tea tree oil on the medical or body treatment store.. i have found tea tree oil on bodyshop store in Jakarta, you can find bodyshop store in the big or main store in Manila.. for sure, visit their website.. good luck
I tried tea tree oil on my dreads not too long ago, never again. It made my hair oily as shit, and created MORE dandruff and just looked horrible. I didn't use that much, it was pure tea tree oil and I rinsed most of it out. It took about two times showering to get it all out. Perhaps I didn't do it right, but I'm completely fine with just washing my hair once a week with Dr. Bronners (I shower more than once a week, but I don't use any products in my hair except the Dr. Bronners, once a week).
Hmm thats strange, the tea tree pretty much gets rave reviews. How many drops did you use? I think its worth a try so Im gunna go ahead and purchase some. I dont think I can get Dr. Bonners locally here in the Philippines, so I really have no choice. Hope it works though.
hey kthought, im from the philippines. ye(?). i still cant say i have dreadlocks but has many formations now, mine is on its sixth week, all natural(neglect method, with little twists and rips to give it their formations). tea tree oil, ye, body shop caters that, for less than 400 pesos/10ml. if you think you have dandruff, try sulfur soap(works on the face too). you can buy it on any sm supermarket(i guess), mine i bought at bacoor, its called "Dr. S. Wong's Sulfur Soap". is really good on the hair, with zero residue. it kills fungi, parasites, and germs, all at the same time. you must have it man. xD
hey your dreads look great! I had mine done the same way too. I wanted dreads, but could not wait for them to develop due to my job, so I had them made. Well that was, not sure, you'll have to look at my time line thingy. So, since then, all I've had to do is rip them apart. It's an urban myth that they won't stay around long or develp properly!! Keep us posted with updates. They look fantastic and a great size too. xx
hmm sulphur soap, i think il give it a try. i saw some in this herbal store near my office. hope it works cuz it sounds cheaper than tea tree. thanks hippie guy. the time i got dreads, i really didnt know much about the process but now i do and am kinda wishing that i did mine the natural way. the crochet method cut the length of my hair almost in half (before i got dreads i had 22 inches of hair now its more like 14 or so) oh well. still love them tho ONE
I think they look great! And they are not going to fall off! If that was true people wouldn't have worked with the crochet method for several, several years - I know people who have done it for like more than 8 years, meeting lots of people with different dreadexperiences and they still use the crocheting method.
hehe. not to mention, i also have sidelines. haha. many. and uh! i just remembered, i screw one deal up on ebay.ph, i lost an m600i to a con artist. haha. shit, its my friend's and now, i need to get it repayed. haha. paypal sure is shit in the philippines. its part of my dream, to own a gramophone. haha.
no, actually they would fall off after day to days... like my dread, they came fall after 2 weeks dreaded and felt clumsy at 2-4 days early....
you know what, we have the same sentiments with mr conservative. in my opinion too, it would fall off, because its not at all matte; its really shiny. well, let's just see it wont. though it looked great these days, i dunno. lets just hope for the best.
I dont think they would fall off, maybe if you step on them or something like that then they would probably break. I do have a weak spot on my dreads wich i remedied by wrapping it with string, other than that I think the crochet-type dreads can last many years (with some re-touching and maintenance)
by crochetting they do become significantly weaker doing it once or twice may not cayse en to fdall off but doing it over and over might some of my dreads are verythin. and have broken near the ends ..lost the last 8 inches to 2 feet off many but thats just from constantly being stepped on wrapped round axewls getting sat on stuck in dooes chairs ou name it..baSICLY ALOTTA ABUSE TO WEAKREN EVEN THE THINNEST ONES ENOUGH TO BREAK BUT CROCHETTING IS PURPOSELTY ABUSING YOUR HAIR PURPOSELY WEAKENING IT JUST TOCONTROL A FEW LOOSE HAIRS THAT WILL BE BACK A FEW WEEKS LATER NO MATTER WHAT.. damn caps ive seen crochedded dreads so weakened that just a light tug on em caused em to come off..nd that wasnear the roots
ye, and i also believe that punching holes in your hair is definitely not good. i think, it destroys some already tied-together hair and that it gives hollow spaces which then weakens the whole thing.
