Sorry the files are so big, I just really wanted you to see my hair. Showing underneath And one of the weaker dreadlings So, what do you think?
Very nice, they are backcombed? And how old? haha lots of questions oh and removing the bands might be a good idea since your hair can swallow them.
Yeh I took those last two bands out today They are 10 weeks old. Never back combed. UGH - these live journal people just keep telling me how pointless my hair is and how it's not dreadlocks and to start over
ok so if those are natural keep it on haha, cause they are awesome for just 10 weeks seriously dont listen to other people comments, they'll start to congo and become bigger and bigger (as you wish cause you can always separate) and will mature, natural locks takes a while to really form and looks better (6 to 18 months) I'm at 3 months now but my hair is very short and I think it's shrinking so it doesnt help but all my hair separated by itself like yours did and about the same size, but they'll get bigger.
i hate to sound like a mean person hun, but it looks like you have TONS of wax in there, and they are more twisty than knotty, but if you get the wax out twisty can turn into knotty as long as you leave it alone and don't keep twisting it (cause messing with it will dislodge the forming knots). did you do them yourself or did someone else do them for you? i'm really not trying to be mean, and if you want your dreads to be full of wax, you certainly have a right... but from my experience, wax does so much to PREVENT actual locking, it's not even funny. it glues the "dread" together, not allowing for movement, which is what causes the knots. at 10 weeks, there should be LOTS of knots, and i really don't see that many in your hair. again, i'm really not trying to be mean, because i don't wanna be another one of the ones giving you really mean, negative comments like you posted. i think they have a lot of potential to be GREAT dreads!!! thin can be great... i have a lot of very thin dreads... and as the hair actually knots and locks up, it pulls upwards, thickening the dread so it won't always be that thin. is your hair naturally curly or does it just look like that because of a twisting method? and do you actually have wax in it? because if you don't, WASH YO HEAD!!! i'm saying this in a very loving tone, and with a smile. i used wax when i first started, and it was horrible. i didn't wash for a while either, and it was horrible. wash your hair AT LEAST once a week, and use no wax or conditioner. if you do have wax in, read the sticky icky wax removal thread, and get it out.... then leave it alone, wash it, and soon enough your dreads will be lusciously wonderful!
Yeh, I am working on getting the wax out. I am gonna buy some orange oil and put that with some baking soda and lemon juice on my hair, let it sit for a good 1/2 hour then pour 12 pots of boiling water over my hair, letting it my hair soak in the pots of boiling water between pourings...does that make sense? Yes, my stupid hair has tons of wax cause that's what I was told to by the dumb bitch who did my hair. She led me so astray. And my hair is curly, but it also was twisted, so I just don't know anymore. I feel like if I leave it alone (after dewaxing) the new grwoth will dread, am I wrong?
Yeh well hindsight is 20/20 LOL I had no clue how to start dreads, I should have researched it BEFORE and not after. I am gonna boil this shit out of my hair and backcomb them all. Hopefully backcombing won't rip it all to shit
when thew ax is oit they';ll start too dread they aleady have a slifht start but was hindered by wax shen theyre clean it'll prigress faster\
they look really nice and they will look even better when you get the wax out. dont worry about the braidedness, im sure they will become dreaded anyway. if i were you, i would just leave them alone, after getting the wax out. with your curly hair, they will be awesome in no time, no matter how they were started.
Hey mama don't listen to any more negative comments here OR ya live journal thing. Listen straight up to the people saying get the wax out (and thats gonna take some time as you already know!) then leave em the hell alone! I also had the bad wax start but managed to get it all out (eventually) and now I just wear a wool hat, do a little palm rolling now and then and use a bit of sea salt and lemon juice to try and tighten em up! Its a long, long journey, frustrating at times, rewarding other times, just have patience.
wel l i can see some of them starting to knot, but its mostly just twists. I started mine with backombing and im not really trustful in other methods, but im sure if you take good care of them they will turn in nice dreads in some time.
