His face stared back at mine I pointed the gun at his head "One move," I said "And you're dead" A tear trickled down his cheek He pleaded something in Arabic I've been trained not to back down So I pulled the trigger and heard the soft 'click' BOOM!! Brain and blood scattered all around His brown, lifeless body dropped to the ground I walk away, unscathed on the outside But there is monsters eating away at my insides I head back to base Not bothering to wipe the blood off my face I think "What did I do?" How much longer until I am through? The day comes where I implode Just minutes earlier I had been told That I am getting an award For the "courageous" work I've done I am the American Soldier And I want this to be over I turn the gun around towards myself And I pull the trigger... I dont know if this forum gets alotta replies, so Ill prolly post this somewhere else later.
good poem actually great i thought im here in iraq and that hits close really close if u want some pix im me ill email u some pix if u wanna see pix that goes right w/that
its absolutely disgusting. What a completely false and unfair portrayal of people who protect us and our civil liberties....and to rip john kerry's slogan, They deserve better.
I agree... how come people like you soulrebel51 are so drunk with your own self rightousness... i ask you some simple questions (somewere else) and you bottle it ... sorry if i bored you and all... sorry that your thoughts don't stretch any further than the tip of your nose ... probably uncalled for and not right ...but hey so was/is this thread.
imagine a poem called the palestinian man or the arab man which used this as an example? wow, we'd be flamed and banned from the board!
What's sad is to think these young guys are coming home EXCITED that they blasted some arabs head off. This was just a one sided poem, about one soldier in particular. If you're so hung up on how that's such a bad depiction on a soldiers after-life, write a poem about how awesome it is bombing a country. Here, here ya go Hickory dickory dock i blew off some fuckers cock I am a god damn hero 55 arabs, knocked down to zero 2 fucking blasts Forced up their ass Shit son, where the hell is mah medal!? I RULE!!!! This story soulrebel wrote is poetry, get over it and keep your political ramblings in the politics forum. Shit, for all we know, in the eyes of the writter this could just be a satire.
no one is saying its awesome to bomb a country. But to call the american soldier a murderer? My god, grow up. Yes, it is poetry, and like all forms of expression, has the right to be challenged. If the poet didnt want the backlash, he shouldnt have wrote a controversial topic.
I think alot of you need to jump of your high political horse and realize several things, numero uno being that this is poetry, and as such; it's open to interpretation... If I happened to be in the military, and was forced to go to Iraq and fight, and kill other people... I personally don't know if I could take it. That's the number one reason I would never join any military anywhere; the possibility of having to take another human life is something I just couldn't do. You may see this as an insult to our troops; I happen to see it as a testament to them. I've heard and read countless stories of troops that don't want to be there, and yet there they are, performing a service for our country honorably. Some of our troops are going to be scarred for the rest of their lives, and that's truly a very sad thing. All opinions aside on the validity of this Iraq war, this poem should at least outline the importance of finding alternative options to war until there's no other choice, because our troops are our neighbors, our brothers, sisters, and friends whose lives have been effected, and it had better be worth it.
I have family overseas in iraq, and this is an absolute disgrace. This isnt a testament to our troops, this poem calls american troops MURDERERS. what was depicted was clearly MURDER. That is not a testament to our troops.
that's because you took it literally, instead of metaphorically. I read this as symbolism: our troops fighting a war which was unjustified.
I find it absolutely tasteless and a horrible thing to write about our troops, you can think of what you will, and i will think of it what i will.
Thank you everybody You have convinced me to post this in a more visited forum. Your poem rocked Lucy, good job For the record, I have a cousin in Iraq. I do not support him one bit because his reasoning for joining the armed services was to "kill towelheads." This poem is based on the story of a soldier that hung himself after coming back on leave. He was ordered to kill two unarmed Iraqis and kept their dog tags as a reminder. He had the dogtags close by so he would never forget what he did, and he placed them on top of his suicide note, all of which was found by his dad. Thanks for the comments everybody
