I won't bother explaining my life, people are tired of hearing my tragic story. So here's the digest:

After questioning life and everything in it at the age of 10, becoming clinically depressed from 11 to 15, throwing off the religion that was beat into me since nine months before I was born at 18, spending 19 through 24 continuing to question, and finally seeing light at the age of 25, I've finally found the direction my life needs to go in.

Sadly, the "normal" world frowns upon my beliefs and values and cannot coexist with them. I'm tired of spinning my wheels trying to live peacefully with a outwardly dead society and want to surround myself with people who understand who I am and why I do what I do. I've been on the fence about this for a while and I think it's time to act.

I've been lurking for a while and reading what other people say and you all seem like nice people so I ask you; Where's a good place for a very hard working, technologically savvy hipster who won't step on the treadmill anymore to go to?

The things I'm looking for in a community are very simple (most of them anyways), love given and accepted by all, respect given openly and expected from everyone, the ability to be alone when need be, the ability to be in the company of good people when need be, and internet access. I realize that last one is not normally associated with communes but that's all I need in my life right now the rest is negotiable.

For the last seven years both work and living facilities have been on shaky ground. I just want a place to live that I know will be there the next day and work that won't give me migraines and depression.

Any tips on what to look for would also be nice, I would not mind moving across the state to get to where I need to go either. Thanks.

I don’t really know what to suggest someone in your situation.

Maybe focus on what you really want and what kind of people you want to be around. I think when people focus on things they eventually create them.

I wandered around myself looking for a community to live in and stayed at a few and after a while decided that life in a small community wasn’t what I wanted at this time in my life.

A good way to start is to visit a couple of alternative communities and talk to people there, a lot of people in alternative community have traveled a lot and been to different places.

A lot of communities you will never hear of on the Internet, a lot of folks still believe that certain things should only be passed around a circle by word of mouth.

    Good luck.

So can you suggest any, or is this not a good place to look?

The thing is I've heard about communes a lot but know very little about them. I'm aware of the type of lifestyle involved and the changes that it would force me to make. I'm still fairly new to California too so I know nothing about where to go or who to ask. This is the most promising site Google gave me so I'm asking here.

Ha! I stumbled on the site by accident just about an hour ago. Thanks anyways.

What I really wanted was for people who currently live in a commune to describe their experiences there and why they like it. So I can get a better idea of what commune living is like. Anyone care to share?

Well I too am searching for a more grounded reality and might be starting my own soon, or finding one.
I think that part of the frustration for many of us is while we share insights into our nature and feel a connection with each other, there is still a lot of confusion and pain going on along with media bombardment.. so that the energies people bring are sometimes difficult to be at peace with.
So with all the healing that needs to go on, there is going to be some pain.
Part of me wants to avoid negative energy. But when I'm really in the right place mentally, I want to experience a person's energy regardless, feeling a higher level of compassion and respect.
We have put one foot in the river, but are still uncertain weather we should cast our lot in the water..
But when we do it will be wonderful! It's just a matter of time.
