Hi, I know I should probably post my intro in a different place, but came directly here to search how to begin meditation. I have little experience with it and am wondering if programs such as Holosync, Collapse the World (James Arthur Ray), or ??? would help. I have begun meditating, or at least sitting quietly concentrating on breathing...it is a challenge for me to keep my thoughts quiet and calm. I realize this is a process and maybe I can't be impatient with it.

I have found recently that I am so uptight and restless...I am not the parent I need to be, I have had chronic knots in my shoulders for years...For the last year or so I have been soul-searching and reading or listening to many books on self-development. I am to the point now that I think that meditation could help me greatly on my quest for inner peace and purpose. Hopefully this is the forum to ask this kind of question...I googled to find it!

    Thank you, April

You have indeed posted in the right place, fellow child of the sun. It truly takes time, people hate to hear others say that. You have to invest time and your faith. It will only work if you work it! I hate to post this website but.. http://www.how-to-meditate.org/
It should give you some insight to the wonderful world of meditation. Also, do you have any good yoga studios near you? Usually yoga instructors know a thing or two about meditating and would be happy to help you, at least mine are!

Good luck, remember patience is key! Let us know how you do :)

    Peace and Love

I will take a look at the site. We have no yoga studios that I know of, we are a small town. I am capable of placing many limitations on myself that need not be there....I am the caregiver of 5 amazing people and 6 if you include my husband. My quality time with myself has to be early morning (and I have a hard time waking with energy, or as early as needed) and/or later evening when I feel tired, yet usually lay in bed thinking. I am pretty isolated, possibly by choice. I will keep on keepin on...I do believe that when the student is ready the teacher will appear!

There are many ways to steal a minute or two for yourself during the day. Take a look over at meditationiseasy.com, too. It's the most comprehensive meditation tutorial I've seen on line, although I don't think the author's first language was English. Not nearly as bad as some I've seen, though. Get used to chanting mantra if it appeals to you. You can make progress that way as well. Anytime you're not talking or focusing intently on something, you can chant mantra to yourself. I also do it aloud while driving by myself. Stick to it and you will definitely enjoy the benefits.

    Good meditation never ends.

When you can live your day in the present moment, meditation then becomes a state of being.

Do what you do with the awareness of why.

I would suggest reading Eckhart Tolle's book "The Power of Now". The techniques he describes go way beyond simple meditation.

Take a trip to India. Hook up with a Guru. That is where meditation started and thats the pure way to spiritual power!

Be careful if you go to India. There are a lot of false gurus out there who would love nothing more then your money and complete allegiance to them. It's best if you start out here then later if you feel you have to go to India, then go, but be aware.
