Here a few poems I've written recently, comments and criticisms are welcome

The world we live in today, what a frightful place to be
And no one listens to the voice of reason, the voice of you and me
Driven by greed and ruled by incompetence
We slowly destroy ourselves day by day
But the one truth that floats among the sea of lies
Is that anyone can turn the tide if they only try

Hope is not lost to those who keep it near
The voice of change has spoken, but you must open up your ears
I am no noble leader, just a poet with a pen
But I can see the path we must take to taste real freedom once again

People like us will not let the world become what it has set out to be
A barren trench of misery, from sea to shining sea
So dry your eyes, enough with the tears
Just spread your arms and hold me near
Look forward to the day when
Serenity leads the way, the day when suffering vanishes
And injustice is kept at bay

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Remorseful feelings swell up
    Morbid thoughts arise
Regretfully I lift my head and open my weary eyes
If not for love and if not for life, if not for those fleeting feelings of delight
    When dreams come alive
The only thing left for me would be a lonely demise
Looking back on yesterday, I shut my heavy eyes

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    Do you remember maple syrup
Or the beauty of maple trees
Do you remember the colors they’d turn in autumn
Or the sparkling and shining seas

Lab rats, HAZMAT, PCBs and dying trees
Acid rain, Ozone strain, CO2 and fossil fuel
Looks like Jacques Cousteau told us so
    We’ve brought upon the end
We’ve crucified the environment on a cross of pollution

Do you remember the taste of seafood
    Or swimming in the brook
    Do you remember breathing easy
    What little effort it took

Lab rats, HAZMAT, PCBs and dying trees
Acid rain, Ozone strain, CO2 and fossil fuel
Looks like Jacques Cousteau told us so
    We’ve brought upon the end
We’ve crucified the environment on a cross of pollution

Do you remember when out of sight meant out of mind
    How dreadfully wrong we were
From Chernobyl to America, such a sad and morbid fate
This parched and barren wasteland we were so careless to create

Sorry for the length of the first and last....enjoy and thanks in advance for any feedback
