eh, maybe it's early or I am half asleep, but I really don't understand what you are asking.. Hip places around the states or hip places in Indy (there are none)..?

there's lots of cool things to do in this general area (ohio- not too far from yourself), but i don't know what sort of things you are into.

if you're looking for hip places as in places where stupid people stuck in the past go to smoke pot, i can't help you. (well actually yeah, nelson's ledges in northeast ohio. big hippie campground with very lax rules)

    beat me to it.

i think hipness has to be somehow in the eye of the beholder, and therefor what is hip to me, pretty good chance won't be to someone else, and vicy versy.

like the hippest places to me, are in my imagination the kind of world i'd rather be living in, university engeneering libraries, and maybe riding arround on trains and bussess seeing places i don't get to go or see very often.

also wherever i have or can use freely and creatively the tools and toys with which to do and make things creatively.

if its suggestions for a weekend road trip, which it sounds to me like, i'd say head out into the boonies and explore your surroundings places you haven't been.

i know nothing about that part of the country/world the o.p. is from, but i know that wherever i was, i'd just get some good maps and go explore the least traveled roads i could find to see and learn what's there.

take along some munchies and fixins for munchies for when you get hungry, and make sure you've got all the supplies you need to take care of whatever might happen, you know, like water and fuel as well as food and bedding and for whatever kind of vehicule, spare oil it's using, distributer kit, tools, all that, check the spare and make sure it's ok too.

just all the basic standard obvoius, i would hope and think obvious, kinds of things.
