Backcomb them in and leave them to it...i know thats not what you want to hear..but dreads take a long time...mine are a year old and only starting to look like dreads now...yes the backcombing will fall out..but its just the start of a very long process...personally i kept elastics in mine for a month and that seemed to help solve my anxiety if anything...but most people will tell you not to do that
Wool hat DOES help yes, for me. If I don't wear it some time in the day my hair won't progress or nothing wont happen much, with it yes, Just put it 2 3 hours and leave your hair free in the air after.

I'm not really sure it can be done naturally, I would just take the pain and backcomb and see where it goes from there.
How are you going to show your "dread" to your new girlfriend/boyfriend? What if they freaked out and won't ever touch you again, haha.
