Me and a mate where talking about setting up some kind of grow room, and we started pondering about taking my sofa apart and use it as a base. Few minutes later we where ripping it apart, it is slowly coming together, and is really humongous.

The sofa is used as a base and the broken bed as a frame, wooden fiber plates as walls and the bottom of an old rabbit cage as water proof "floor".

Same but slightly cleaned, rabbits are dirty =P

    The dimensions are roughly 2m high x 1m deep x 1,5m wide (6.56x3.28x4,92 feet)

How much would you plant, in how big pots? strain? comments suggestions?
    More to come soon.

[Edit] We are going for a 400W HPS

Removing the cloth between the sides, so to avoid mold and unwanted bacteria.

We've thought about a carbon filter, but it really depends on the size, smell and how much it can handle. A alternative solution is piping it from the top ventilation to a chimney hole, thats located under 1 meter from where the cabinet will be standing. My main concern is mold in the chimney duct's, as it's not being used by any one..

We have also joked about flooding the apartment complexes ventilation, just not that fun when you get busted.. :p

for that size, just pumping the air out will likely be sufficient. but a coal filter is advisable at over 5 plants flowering

For the smell, try putting a couple of air-stones in a 5 gallon bucket and putting 1 part pine sol to 5-10 parts water. You can adjust the ratio depending on how much odor you are having to deal with. Place in right next to the grow room, it helps immensely.

Does anyone know how much a ozone generator can handle? have not been able to find any measurements on them.. they seem a bit more long term, compared to a carbon filter..

I have used the day putting on the back side, reinforcing the sides, air sealing and working on the door knobs.

    The front
    [IMG]

    The back
    [IMG]

Door knobs, from the original sofa arms, they have been polished smooth and decorated with wood glue. they will be painted, probably some time tomorrow..

Can some one tell me how to make thumbnails? so there aren't these bulky pictures..
I really like the back side, it's really to bad you can't see it more..

The Heart door knobs, now painted, there's going a lot of love into this grow box :)

Next phase will be making the electricity box, witch will hold the ballast and power supply. Maybe we'll put the roof on today to, that's where the electricity box will be placed, with the top vent, pointing the opposite way, to avoid moisture, but stay close to the lamp and exhaust fan..

Youre going to need a scrubber for that, and youd have to be crazy to do it without one, nevermind being in a complex... Ive grown with and without one... ozone/pinesol/etc dont work nearly as well...imho... Im using the canfan combo with the 6 inch fan, works like a charm... do not skimp on odor control... just a couple plants can make an entire house REAK... also you could cram an extra 400 in there, or even a 600, easily...

Good luck, it looks good so far! :sifone:

What medium ya planning on using?

I can't really get my head around the deal with the canfan combo, because I only have 2,7 square feet and the smallest solution moves 168 cfm. I have read that the ventilation should be able to move the air in my room in about 5 minutes. 168cfm * 5 minutes = 840 square feet in 5 minutes, that's over 300 times more air flow than i need. Am I missing something here? or do you have a different solution? maybe a smaller fan? does less air flow trough the carbon filter give it a longer lifespan?

Massive question bombardment :p hope some one can help :)
btw, we have run out of cash, so the projekt is on pause, next step is big thou(31/8/2008). Ballast/lamp/odor control and front panel open thingy, suggestions?

More than happy to try out some whacky idea for the front, instead of just regular cabinet doors(Boring!), as cash is flowing soon..

Ya got it wrong, the ideal fan will replace the air 2-3 times in a minute. You want to replace the hot air with fresh air as much as possible. If you change your filters about every year or so you should be fine... do things right and youll be able to sell a few sacks and basically have gotten the equipment for free... no worries...
    3.2 x 5 x 6.5 = 104 cubic feet (about...)
    http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=CMF610
^Pretty much perfect fit... there are cheaper ones to be found elsewhere....

If yer strapped for cash then spring for some cheap seeds, nirvana or something.... In something of that sides Id run 2 packs, and like I said spring for another 400 or ditch the 400 and get a 600... you won't regret it....

Remember, ya get what ya put in, do things right and you WILL be smoking for free for a while, and just maybe you won't have to pay for rent... :sifone:

edit: Here's a good idea that a friend of mine used at his old place... Cover the thing in black tarp and hang lots of artsy pictures around... put a little sign on it that says "DO NOT OPEN, PHOTOS BEING DEVELOPED".... it did help that this kid was actually an art student, but it does explain the hum and all, and most people wouldn't think twice looking at it...just make sure theres no light leaking out...

A total solution with it's own power, would be really nice.. I see now that I calculated the meters and called it cubic feet :/
I think I will have a look at my local seed shop and see what they have for odor control, seeing that all these products are for American power socket's :(

More than a 400 watt will probably blow my fuses :( but the low cash flow is only temporary :D

We both think the strain should be sweet or fruity, yields don't matter much, ease of grow would be nice but not a must, cerebral/energetic buzz prefered :) you gotta know what you want :p

Thanks for the nudge back to reality Lune
