The easiest to start with is isolation of sassyfrole from root beer, either through fractional distillation or the bisulfite addition product. I have found A&W to work best, although Hires may be used in a pinch. If using the bisulfite method, DO NOT use diet root beer, as the aspartame contained within will form an emusion during the final separation and you will have to start over. The next step is extraction of mentholamine, and for this precursor, one has a variety of choices. If the final product is destined to be consumed by upper-scale raver types, the rolling experience will be significantly enhanced by using After Eight dinner mints. Being myself a low-life dirty scoundrel, I've never had problems with using mints pilfered from the greasy restaurants I patronize, but be forwarned that these are now officially "List II" precursors and watched by the DEA. That groovy lookin' dude playing sitar at the Indian joint may be the one putting your ass in the slam. Once you have reasonably pure sassyfrole and mentholamine, the final step is a one-pot reduction to the final product. A Foster's beer can is ideal, as it not only provides a convenient reaction vessel, but also is made of the aluminium with acts as the catalyst for the hydrogenation. Add one part sassyfrole, 3-4 parts mentholamine (don't skimp here), and one 9-volt battery to the can. Seal with duct tape and place in an isolated area, as this is a high-pressure reaction. After one week, carefully peel off the duct tape. Add 300 mL liquid charcoal starter and shake well. Siphon off and discard the aqueous top layer. Throw 200 mL of 29% HCl into the charcoal starter layer (where the product is contained) and watch as the product crystallizes out of solution. Vacuum filter the crystals and wash with Monte Alban mezcal. This is the easiest to start with that I know of, but I'll be goddamned if I don't have too much free time on my hands...

depends what your goal is. different processes teach different skills. if your totally daft start easy. make some hash oil or something. move to isolating chemicals in pills or something. ephedrine is easy and lots of fun, simple pills with less ingredients are easiest. try isolating LSA or some other organic chemical with acid base type seperation. or go to school .. take some chemistry classes. none of it is really difficult just a matter of having the equipment and the initial materials after that its a matter of skill and accuracy things you get with time..
